There's eventually supposed to be an instance in that ship...
It'll be put in storywise soon enough...it's supposed to reveal the secrets of the past and move us into the future....
That ship...that dragon...you don't want to go there...asking to go is trouble...and yet we'll soon be there...be warned...
You asked for it...

I've got some questions for everyone that is so abhorrently against a 4 hour dungeon crawl. Why does the idea bother you so much? Aren't more options a good thing? Options, optional options, and options for optional options right? I mean just cause it's there doesn't mean you have to do it. No one would be forcing you to spend 4 hours in a dungeon. If it doesn't effect how you play the game, I don't see why you want so badly to control how others would choose to spend their time.
Ok, I've had my fill of being an ass. Seriously though, if the game's going to appeal to hardcore gamers as well as you casuals (I'm assuming it's the casual crowd saying hell no won't go...) it's going to need things that will appeal to them. Things like 4 hour dungeon crawls they're willing to ignore the ringing phone or leaky toilet to complete.
And just for the record, not everyone has the ability to get jobs and the like. I can't remember the precise disease, but one of my old FFXI LS mates practically lived on the game because there wasn't a whole hell of a lot else he could physically do. Matter of fact after his weekly dialysis treatments he couldn't even play FFXI aside from logging in to tell us why we weren't gonna see him for the rest of the night. The most depressing thing is it wasn't like he was 67 with lifelong diabetes, the poor fella was a couple years younger than I, somewhere in his late teens.
So yea...when you ask if these people have jobs, families, responsibilities, lives etc. well...some of them don't, and it isn't by choice. Just something to think about.
It's not that I'm disagreeing with you here or anything, but for the time the developers take to make a 4 hour dungeon (I'm assuming something special here, not repeated crap for 4 hours) they can create 2 or 3 casual dungeons where almost everyone will enjoy.I've got some questions for everyone that is so abhorrently against a 4 hour dungeon crawl. They did say that they will add a hard mode for current selective instance, which is good for whoever wants them... but what is hard about them? Dzamel darkhold is a race to the boss, there is nothing hard but the drop rate. They need to fix that first.

I'm not against four hour dungeons. I just want them to be workable 5 years from now when the hopefully huge post-V2 player base starts to fall off, and in my mind Dymamis was not workable for a lot of shells on Carbuncle server three years ago as the server population dwindled. My shell was really great at low man runs, but it was really hard to muster more than 12 regular players each run. We could win sandy or beau with 8 people, but wins in areas like Valkurm were unreachable with that many people due to the time constraints. There were some large exclusive shells on Carby that did very well in dynamis, but there were a lot more small shells that did runs twice a week.I've got some questions for everyone that is so abhorrently against a 4 hour dungeon crawl. The overall design of dynamis was superb, and it was very well balanced as an event overall. It was just too hard to get 36 people to show up twice a week for a 4 hour event. When SE makes hardcore events they need to consider that a much smaller segment of the player base will want to participate regularly. They absolutely should include well balanced content for hardcore players in "stupefying quantities" to quote the old MHMU representative.
I knew a lot of current and ex military personal who played XI. Some of them were disabled vets, and to those based in Iraq and Afghanistan it was a lifeline back to the states in a way. The game had a lot for people who could play it 8 - 12 hours a day. I don't see why XIV can't contain content like that, but I know it may take several years of content updates to get there.

How about this kind of dungeon:
- no timer
- not instanced
- monsters respawn
- different floors
- you have to kill a nm on each floor to gain access to the next floor
- on floor 3, you'll get a key for a special door on floor 1, so you have to go back to this floor (so different parties will meet each other but wont steal nm kills)
- you can "save progress" like every 4 floors
And finally, it's not really a dungeon, but a tower.... and its name: crystal tower![]()
Make at least the upper levels balanced for an alliance and you have a deal. How about this kind of dungeon:

Besides you don't have to save progress with phasing or anything stupid, just have an elevator you get a key or key item to access, Vanguard managed this with APW, and they had worse client/server structure than FFXIV by far.

SE has actually done this before in several games, already. Some examples I can think of without trying are elevators in Augusta Tower (XIII-2), Pharos at Ridorana (XII), Delkfutt's Tower and Pso'xja (XI)... so we know they'd be capable of it. Personally, I wish the elevators in Ul'dah and LL were part of the maps too (i.e. no "zoning" screen, no cutscene, able to run in circles while elevator is in motion).

Four hours is absurd, unless it's sectioned so that you can clear an hour's worth of content at a time and then come back another time.

The only crap parts about dungeons is finding people getting in. Otherwise there are tons of people online 4 hours, infact i dont even open this game unless i have 6-10hours to play(which is a few days a week)
