They are not necessarily players with a great deal of experience in game, and there are some players that have recently swapped classes who are looking for specific help in these areas.

With the influx of new players from other games (I'm looking at you WoW/GW2), that have raided in the past in other games, these are often players that have sped through leveling (extremely easy now) and have not experienced FF's specific style of raiding and understand how to think about how to gear up, stats, materia melding (overmelding and how to think about spell and skill speed.) I've seen those discussions happening in NN. More so lately with the ability to buy level boosts. The gear the game hands you with that, and the gear you acquire from pure story questing, can carry you through to end game easily (have purchased boosts to test on my 2nd account.)

These are "in essence" new players but not sprouts. And because they have not been around in game long enough to absorb understandings, many are not in FCs that can guide them, there is no place to go for information other than websites which aren't necessarily good at answering, in detail, the questions/concerns they have.

There's also the expectations brought with some of them regarding dps meters - something a lot of us mentors have to carefully explain regarding SE policy.

These are ex-raiders from other games that are perfectly capable of raiding at that level, but have barriers to entry regarding gear and sometimes honed rotations. Getting them over that hump is something that is happening in NN, for those thinking about it ahead of aging out due to level. I hear comments from them wanting to be mentors in order to remain in the channel to get information once they get to that point.

Those are the players that need some way to get help to not negatively impact other raiders, or as I've seen in some cases, stop/slow down a raid for someone to take the time to explain. (Not a problem for me, but there are many who find that frustrating.)

Yes, that could be a linkshell. Our server has discord. However, in the spirit of helping the overall community, and retaining new players (which many are), this is an area that SE could consider a 2nd channel.

And, I'd love to see an NN devoted more towards new sprouts in the leveling process. (Original intent.)

However, I also understand there is a need for helping new players entering into the endgame "leveling" .

I'd be curious to see (from a poll), how many mentors would be interested in actually (A) seeing a split (B) committing to helping an endgame channel.

Or, they could use a channel in-game and have a discussion within their own community with known mentors, many who will delve gear and abilities for others to see/read.

Or they can use an already organized and established channel which allows discussion with all kinds of knowledgeable players, read any of the posted guides and tips and even organize any kind of run with even support for voice chat during the run.

The two are not mutually exclusive. Win for the players.

Please note: I have nothing personally invested in the notion either way, just putting it out there for consideration.

Your points are valid. ^_^ (As long as "new" players know it's there. I have only seen it mentioned twice in game.)
