I recall reading once that a lot of things are based on achievements in this game. It's how they tell what a player has done, they just look at achievements. I'd say you are completely right.Edit: I wonder if the requirement being 1,500 is because the game checks achievements for mentor status. The level 80 job quests, dungeon requirements, and commendation thresholds all have achievements tied to them, and the achievement system for comms goes: 10 > 100 > 300 > 500 > 1,500 > 3,000. So I’d wager that’s why they went with 1,500: system limitations.
Hi! I am that person, having never done Scholasticate, Hildibrand or any of the side quests, really.
Why does that matter? People typically ask about combat or crafting not lore. For those who do, other mentors can cover that.
"Stand in the ashes of a trillion dead souls and ask the ghosts if honor matters."
"The silence is your answer."
1.5k coms does not equate to a good mentor. It just means someone could have worn a cute glam on a cute character or mains healer/tank and runs content daily or plays nonstop. It in no way indicates they are able to help others or not be toxic in open chat.
Yeap. Tbf, trying to gauge if someone can be a competent Mentor or not is going to be close to impossible with any type of automated system. The only answers I can come up with would require more active monitoring by Squenix which isn't likely to happen. The channel needs eyes on it more than it has now cause the shitposting in it is absolutely a problem.
I proposed a request for a regional chat here. But there's a lot of opposition for something I really think will help the NN above all.Yeap. It does indicate that 1500 people have pressed the commendation on him though, that tells us at least that he wasn't a complete asshole or totally incapable of doing what he was supposed to be doing during those 1500 cases, it is not a guararantee of anything but better than nothing and honestly probably the best we can get.
Because the Mentors are a fat noob often !I'm very frustrated with the new update to needing 1500 commendations to be a mentor. I've had this character as my main for a year and a half, I run tank or healer in dungeons so I get more comms than a DPS character would. After that long, 892 comms. I have a friend with a character since around beta, who runs mainly DPS in dungeons and has a bit over 1300 comms.
I get comms when I run dungeons, but I often run with friends and we can't comm each other. It makes for a lot of runs I have no way to get comms. And while I absolutely agree that it needs to be higher than 300, 1500 is too high. I love having the mentor tag and being grouped up with sprouts for dungeons when I do run roulettes without friends. It's a lot of fun that's now being taken away for a ridiculous requirement from my point of view at least.
I'd love to hear other's views on this. It was a very unpleasant surprise this morning.
One year of FFXIV is good for learning to play and pretending to be able to advise newbies.
And again, for some, it's still big noobs after years of play.

I personally don't care, as I've turned off my NN for quite some time. But, I really can't say much seeing as I have almost 6000 commies... and a good amount are from DPSing as much as healing and tanking.
I like helping people with their Job ideas, it's fun to help them visuallize and create the job they'd like to play most. Plus I make my own too, I'll post them eventually.
You can farm your commendations in guildhests. They're quick and easy. Just make sure you're either tank or healer, and if you'd use phantasia and changed into lalafell, that would make things even more efficient.
