Mentor Changes - Why 1500 Comms?

I'm very frustrated with the new update to needing 1500 commendations to be a mentor. I've had this character as my main for a year and a half, I run tank or healer in dungeons so I get more comms than a DPS character would. After that long, 892 comms. I have a friend with a character since around beta, who runs mainly DPS in dungeons and has a bit over 1300 comms.

I get comms when I run dungeons, but I often run with friends and we can't comm each other. It makes for a lot of runs I have no way to get comms. And while I absolutely agree that it needs to be higher than 300, 1500 is too high. I love having the mentor tag and being grouped up with sprouts for dungeons when I do run roulettes without friends. It's a lot of fun that's now being taken away for a ridiculous requirement from my point of view at least.

I'd love to hear other's views on this. It was a very unpleasant surprise this morning.

    Gonna disagree with that.

I've been playing the game since 2017 actively and I have over 4000 comms. Most of those comms just come from me playing a tank/healer in roulettes. (which I would run frequently). More recently with the moogle tome event I've been getting one per pvp match just for doing callouts as well.

It's no secret tanks and heals get more since those jobs require much more effort in positioning and management while also give out the biggest signs of notice. You're gonna notice a tank doing well with mitigation and positioning the boss just like you will with a healer keeping them topped and helping to mitigate raidwides.

I do feel bad for those who mainly play DPS as it's not as noticed as much by the general public, but I can bet your bottom dollar it's a seasoned tank or heal who is comming the dps.

Also if we're being completely honest the requirements for mentor until this point were the same since HW only with the level cap being raised. So much so that the amount of mentors outweighed the sprouts and turned certain NN's into shitposting fiestas. Glad there will be some weeding out and allow active mentors in NN to still help sprouts more so then before.

You'll get there. Just because it isn't available immediately doesn't mean you won't have time to get there. I think being a mentor does require much stricter requirements than what we have but that's a different story. At 300 comms, ppl were becoming mentors left and right, not saying its a bad thing but its not exactly a good sign when NN is struggling to fit x amount of mentors when out of 100 slots, only 20 or so actually "mentor" in said NN.

I think it's stupid. I have 700 commendations now but that's taken me 2,300 hours of gameplay. TO require someone to play this game nearly 5,000 hours is insane and does nothing but feed the notion that MMOs are for addicts.

I mean, I solo quest a lot, so that's part of it. I probably know more about how this game works given I've done some savage content and completed the majority of all local side quests, and all chain sidestory quests, than random "Joe Roulette" who does nothing but use duty finder all day long to get commedations. Getting commedations and completing 1,000 dungeons does not show you know how to play the game - at this point it's just bragging rights to how badly your addicted.

It's sad because if I was a novice I wouldn't care if you have 1,500 commedations from tanking or running 1,000 dungeons - help me get through this ---- class quest!

I think if they wanted to really have the novice network work to help noobs out, require completion of all storyline and all sidequests, as well as require completion of all zone side quests. Require 500 commedations and 500 dungeons, but noobs will catch dungeons as they play what they don't get is the lore behind the Hildibrand quests or what the significance of Hildibrand being upside down with his legs out of the ground all the time is! I don't know how many mentors out there I've ran to who SKIP ALL THE CUTSCENES in this game lol!!!!

I get that. But I've had this char since April last year so not as long as you, but I still know the game very well. I've been playing for longer, but I switched servers and mains so had to start over. If I could smash the comms together of the two chars I have I'd be fine, but that's not an option, understandably. XD As far as tank/healer, I'd hate to think of what my comms would be like if I didn't play those 99% of the time. I tend to give comms to good DPS myself cause I know the struggle there is real which sucks. DPS can make or break a dungeon as much as a tank/healer can.

Admittedly, part of this is likely due to the fact I'm on an RP server and while I do my roulettes regularly to keep my gear up for raiding, which I do, I don't spend my spare time in game grinding out dungeons. I'm either gathering/crafting or RPing. I'd stick myself somewhere between casual and hardcore player on that particular scale. So you have to be closer to hardcore to get this? It's wild to me cause that doesn't guarantee good mentoring at all.

No I agree, it needs to be higher than 300. That's way too low. 1000? That' I'd be good with. I don't want to have to take another year and a half to get to 1500 though, which is exactly what it will take if going by how many I have now is any indication.

Can they at least strip people of their mentor status who have already obtained it if they don't meet the new steep requirements?

That's exactly what they are going to do. As of 5.1 if you don't meet the requirements you are no longer a mentor.

I agree with what they are doing with the changes. Too many bad mentors.

There may be bad mentors, but how many people with mentor status don't know the full story of the Scholasticate missions? Why is everyone dressed as Harry Potter? Because it's a pop culture reference? Or is there some other lore reason behind that?

1.5k coms does not equate to a good mentor. It just means someone could have worn a cute glam on a cute character or mains healer/tank and runs content daily or plays nonstop. It in no way indicates they are able to help others or not be toxic in open chat.
