Steam/FF14 issues

so i log in to the game and i cant do anything, but download the entire game through steam. would buying non-steam reg codes work to fix this issue or would be more of pain and a waste of time and still require me to use steam? this has happened 5 times in September.

If your account is associated via steam (bought the game via steam/have a steam license of FFXIV) then buying regular codes would not help unless you're prepared to abandon your account and start new- as the steam codes and player account are connected now.

Do you get any error or what do you mean by can't do anything when logged in? Like you can see the game, just can't click stuff (it turns on and all, even animates/plays music)? Or is it like a black screen, literally nothing happens?

I don't use the steam version but I've heard some people have issues with the steam overlay and FFXIV, so you could try turning that off: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bomISP9pKnI .

That sounds very frustrating indeed. I can try to help but I'd need to know more of what's going on, like... You said you have to repatch it to play it- does that mean it wont start suddenly? Are there /any/ error messages?

1. try to play ffxiv
(launcher pops up? black screen? music? what happens?)
2. ????
3. ???
4. ???
5. repatch FFXIV
6. play for a while, then return to step 1?

Don't know what to suggest without more info, and unfortunately I've never personally experienced the issue to be like "ah yeah, that one, this is what you do to fix it".

Which is obviously going to reset some things (so I'd not do it until you've the issue, assuming you can open the launcher even since I'm not sure where your issue begins), may want to back up some stuff with the first tool on that page before using setting reset feature . . . just in case. . . But if you have to redownload the whole game then I imagine trying to reset some stuff first would be easier lol.

This has been an ongoing issue for myself. No error code is given or anything, upon opening the game through steam, the FFXIV client is deemed to be out of date and must repatch everything.

This issue occurs with other games on steam as well. From what I am able to gather through my google research, is that this is specifically an issue that occurs due to the fact that Steam's version is extremely out of date compared to the actual live version of the game (which the FFXIV launcher must update).

It seems that upon Steam closing down, there is a chance that an error will occur where the version data for Steam and FFXIV will become out of synch. Upon this happening, Steam will proceed to delete all of the files it does not recognize (everything from v2.1 and onward). Thus, upon Steam closing down, there is a chance that Steam will have an error which will delete the majority of the game files, thus you must redownload the client in order to play once more.

The obvious solution is to not use Steam. The problem with this solution however, is that apparently your PC account is flagged as a Steam account, and thus you will not be able to log into your PC account on a non-Steam version.

This issue has happened to me so many times that I'm forced to consider starting out from square one with a different account, or reconsider playing the game at all if I cannot de-link from Steam, which appears to be the entirety of this problem. Already being so invested in time and money, it'd be a shame. Is there really no way to de-link and salvage a Steam account?

EDIT: PS: First post. I only found this forum and decided to post because I wanted to play FFXIV tonight, but upon opening up Steam, the only FFXIV I have is 10-15 hours of patching, once more. This has been an issue I've had with Steam with other games going back several years, even though I've only owned FFXIV for several months.
