Music Type / Styles You'd Like to Hear / Hear More of (in FFXIV)

Thread not to complain about the music or bash anyone, I'm very happy with the music in game personally, but to say what style you'd like to hear that you feel is missing or simply you just want more of because "more" .

Starting off something I miss a bit and not an overall complaint on the music (everything is great) but something that has limited instruments and a slower orchestral like music feel, perhaps also with drones (iirc the music name right lol) in them. An easy example to me is something like:
    • World of Warcraft music like the Barrens and even Ashenvale which speeds up a bit sometimes (start of that ashenvale video is quite active, mellows out later)
    • Or like the Witcher 1 music- like most of this video
    • Perhaps a bit too string focused of an example but Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura (bit more diversity would be good, though I /love/ that OST lol)

Sort of a slow(ish) orchestral music with not too many instruments going on at once (may speed up or swell occasionally but keeps that similar vibes as it ramps up and ramps back down). Might have some drones. Something that plays nicely with natural sound effects like wind, fauna, water, etc- might find the song in a relax "ambient w/ music" video like some people do on youtube (can find them for all kinds of stuff but I'd probably think first of like lords of the ring / harry potter).

Obviously I use the biggest words and am so great at describing music . . . . /cry lol (/s if not obvious), but that sort of feeling. Like I love the witcher 3 soundtrack so I'm not targeting 1's out of spite of 3's, just feel I'd like to see an open world space with an orchestral piece like that if possible. Even better with a solid ambient experience to mix between tracks and themselves (making sure to get all sounds of nature, where possible and logical- where the weather's sound could really change the piece as it acts almost like it's own sort of layer in the song). Also wanting to focus on string, horns and flutes, and drum instruments fitting an environment and not particularly a battle setting. So while I love the piano and there is a particularly amazing track near the end of ShB I'm thinking for this style it would probably not have a piano or similar things like a harpsichord. Not suggesting everything in an expansion be this style either, just was hoping to chill in an orchestral environment that felt similar to those examples posted (there are many more, both Witcher 1 and WoW's old stuff at least are basically only that type of music). I'd love a bell focused song like FFXI's Heaven's Tower (love that song), but in this particular desire/example perhaps also avoid those too (can be used but not as the core flow).

Again I liked all the ShB music and I had quite a few "woah... dude.." moments where I paused to just relax in the zone- like I can remember the Sands of Amber track, so this thread isn't about not liking something or saying something went wrong but just "I'd like to also see some of this/more of this". If you wanted more of something particular or something you felt there wasn't much of.

Anyway, post your desires- doesn't matter what style (Eurobeat, Metal, Country, Dubstep, Classical, w.e- I don't care ) or from where or if we already have some (could reference this game itself and ask for more of it's own like content "more Ravana/more X"). Can also respond to people's desires with tracks that someone might like that are already in the game, but hopefully not for the purpose of "No, we've one - silence knave!" lol and more for the sake of sharing and reminding of great tracks already in FFXIV.

Ideally desires will come with youtube links for a better picture of what you want but not necessary~

Masayoshi Soken has shown himself to pretty much be on par with Uematsu in terms of his music style sounding 'FF-like' (compared to some of the other SE composers like Naoshi Mizuta), showing mastery of various styles from classical/orchestral to electronic, two extremes which are pretty much my favourites.

Shadowbringers soundtrack shows Soken is going from strength to strength in term of composition, and an example of the type of stirring, emotional orchestral pieces I like is from that OST, the track used for emotional scenes involving the Sin Eaters (particularly that... infamous 'scene' with Tesleen, you know the one...). It's powerful, haunting and ominous (when I first heard it via Youtube before reaching that point in the game I thought it was a new Ascian track as has a similar style to Uematsu's Ascian track Without Shadow), and more music in that style would be something I would like to see.

I really liked how the music in Yanxia used the erhu and gave it a classic Chinese feel. Then there were the au ra NPCs on the steppe using a morin khuur. It would be neat if we had other types of uncommonly used instruments like viol, crumhorn, sitar, or bagpipe to name a few.

Ugh, Idek ffxiv has such great music. I looove the ravana Theme but Im not sure I want more of that, its sooo unique. Amh Araeng theme is perfect for relaxing, I turn my Mount music always off and I grinded those fates just for the scroll, would def buy an album.

I really did like the music in Shadowbringers, its like the music was a character . Almost as iconic as john williams, where you could tell what was coming just by the theme. I wouldnt mind some carmina burana (o fortuna) style, etc. Kind of like the first conan movie, or exalibur movie from the 80's, but i think i am showing my age now so i will stop

    Jazz, Hip-hop, rap, soul.

Team Sonic is the king of video game soundtracks. MJ worked on Sonic game soundtracks, enough said.....

Their songs have like, millions of views on Youtube. I don't see this fitting in with FFXIV though. Sonic games have an attitude, swag, or an edge. There are no FFXIV characters who would fit that billing.

I mean, ultimately that's all going to be tied into what zones we get from here. So, in that case, I guess I'd be looking forward to our version of PotD/HoH actually being really fun this time around and worthy of some Masashi Hamauzu vibes, actually being able to go out trekking across the waste to the vibes of Far: Lone Sails, and to be met with some feelings of Gris or Made in Abyss at certain of its fights and vistas, respectively.

Just imagine it. You have your crew on an engine large enough to support a massive regenerating mana crystal to keep you all alive despite the aether-leeching effects of the Waste, which you take to trek out further when splitting off from Eden for ground exploration, with auto-generative open-world content with common seeds leading into Eureka-like zones all mostly themed around a single element at a time that still have a real, physical space in the larger world. That sounds a plenty good successor to Aquapolis, Exploratory Missions, and Airship building all at once.
