...just kidding. I agree it would be nice to be able to position your chocobo.

You want him out of frontal cones? YOU move and swing the mob around. That's kind of your job as a tank. It's something done in literally every dungeon trash and boss in the game where it's possible.

It might make sense to you to have him not stand in aoes, but you're a person who is intelligent enough to know to do that. A chocobo isn't.

Their eyes are on opposite sides of their heads. They LITERALLY cannot see much in front of them!
While I love my Illuminas, he is incredibly derpy when it comes to healing, as are all chocobos. They do not "close in and park" when they're a healer, because they don't attack in that stance; instead, they simply park themselves next to you, and move when you do. That means that with cones, you not only have to sidestep the cone, but have to make an exaggerated dodge of about 90 degrees AND hope that your Chocobo decides to move in time - heaven forbid if he's casting something at that moment! Healer birds are incredibly clingy/cuddly - I liken them to a cat constantly trying to head-butt you for attention while you're doing something. XD

Chocobo or not. they are stupid.

the dps chocobo or even the tank chocobo will stay well away from you while they do there thing. so why the healer chocobo has to be on your toes every second...

there's no other word for it than stupid.....

People asked for a place / heal type command way back in ARR and i think they said look into it but if they did im guessing they've forgotten all about it..

to be honest though as far as companions go. i kinda want my adventuring fellow back or even my squadren... butthen there's bugger all to do in the open world soooooo.....

    Wot

You can press follow, but then they halt everything they're doing. Which is problematic if your chocobo is on heal. It's a lot of micromanaging that isn't needed. Chocobo's should be immune to damage or be able to managed properly in my opinion.
Ah. Yeah. It would definitely be better if they had enough sense to not stand in it. By the time the telegraph goes down, it's too late to really swing the mob around, and even though *I* move as soon as I see it, Banjo just stands there derping. I don't keep mine on heal (I play BRD so I have an advantage as ranged who can move while attacking); he's usually just doing whatever he feels like doing.

Since September the 21st of 2013...I never had my Chocobo out. To me, that whole concept is ridiculous. I forgot they are a thing until this thread appeared and made me wondering what you mean.

I think they could improve Chocobos is by implementing a diet version of the gambit system from FF12.

If you don’t know what the gambit system was, it allowed you to program your party members to make it so they could only use certain actions st certain times programmed by you. For example, you could have a healer programmed to only start healing you at a certain percentage of your HP to not waste DPS, so you could add a command like “if ally HP < 60, use Cure” or “If self HP < 40, use Curaga.” The higher a gambit was on your gambit list, the higher priority it was, so it would be best to have lower HP commands higher so they didn’t get overwritten by higher ones that would be cast more often,

Using this system, we could program our chocobos to fit our individual needs, and only let them use certain actions at certain times. You could program the bird to use the choco rush ability that stuns a target only when a enemy is casting a move, or to only use choco surge at 50%, then to execute choco cure right after at less than 50% to make sure you get the most outta choco cure and that the bird doesn’t waste time using choco surge at a higher HP percentage. Or you could get the bird cannot use a certain ability at all, I would get rid of choco region all together because it doesn’t do much at all and the time spent casting it could be better used for other moves.

I'm very much in support of the gambit system; that was so good for micomanaging your companions.
