All I can say is you clearly aren't using it for its intended purpose then. Co-ordinating rescue in savage raiding to keep uptime, make mechanics easier, or to correct mistakes is insane amounts of fun. Like I said, calling them obtuse does them a disservice and limits the creativity and decision making involved in raiding. This is a team based game, and I would rather we had more varied skills that allow for team based play.

Oh, shirk is another one, I forgot that, thats similar to shadewalker, and is essential to a tanks toolkit.

Intended purpose doesn't really matter; the ability is obtuse because the way it functions is so easily, consistently and blatantly vulnerable to abuse; and does nothing to mitigate it. Maybe make it so the Healer has to cast some kind of symbolic tether on the other party members beforehand for rescue to work, and it creates a buff that the party member can remove at any time, or simply not consent to.

It's the lack of consideration and forethought regarding these abusive abilities that makes them troll abilities; even if they can and do have some legitimate uses.

Adding all of that will make rescue way harder to use properly. If people are trolling with it, report them, its not a lack of consideration. Rescue is a fantastic tool for making ranged stand in your healer bubbles, cheesing certain mechanic and animation locks, list goes on if someones abusing it you report them, thats the mitigation.

It would only make it harder to use on people who don't want it, and that's the point. We'd all love to be able to force everyone around us to do what we want them to, but that's not a good option to hand random sociopaths in an online community.

Reporting isn't really a consistent option either. Not every healer is going to announce their intention to troll you in chat, and without an announcement good luck proving they're not just well intended healers who suck with Rescue.

What you want is to be coddled in a team based game, its as simple as that. You will encounter trolls, and nasty people, and thats ok. These players don't need to be reported as they will likely be kicked and blacklisted by you for exercising troll behaviour. The game already has the tools to remove problematic people, and giving people a means to deny the use of a skill that could save a party from wiping is open to as much abuse as the ability itself.

His argument is that Healers should be able to wrest control of other peoples characters away from them without their consent for some sense of greater good. "I want to be able to forcibly play your character for you," is a sociopathic mentality; as is pretending it's necessary. Sociopathy doesn't only exist in extremes; all I'm basically saying is that people like that are control freaks, and what they want isn't necessarily what's good for a game like this.

So you think having option to accept is worst than being dragged to new location and having your attacks canceled. Must not been playing very long or you know if don't hit accept nothing happens and your telling me it mess with your rotations. I think it is very good idea how to fix the problem. We sure didn't need this skill in ARR for the savage content.

Yes, I do think that having to interrupt my rotation to hit “Yes, please Rescue me” when healers have deemed it necessary to rescue me during a fight is worse than this supposed trolling that I’ve never even been victim to. Doesn’t matter if not answering anything means automatic no: having a pop-up appear in the middle of a rotation—or having to prompt it from the Notices menu—is equally annoying and entirely unnecessary.

So yeah, I think it’s a terrible idea, and doesn’t really “fix” anything. Fixing implies that the skill is broken—it’s not broken. All this “solution” does is make the entire skill cumbersome for the person who is supposed to Rescued. As it’s already been explained, Rescue can be very useful when timed correctly, or when worked out before hand with a group on when and where to use.

But, I’ve only been playing for 4 years, have played most jobs to level 70 if not 80, and have done every piece of content in this game. So what do I know.

Guess you don't get the joke where a healer above said they use rescue to kill off players and thought it is funny. Content goes to them if see them when tanking I will use it on them if they try kill ones off on purpose with rescue.

I’d be careful doing that. Considering it is actively griefing and you can get suspended for it. Even if they misused Rescue, that doesn’t protect you should they opt to report you for Shirking them.

Though I do love the assumption that players who Rescue have “sociopathic tendencies” (lol) and want to “control other players”, are you considering how the ones who would rather not be bugged by needless confirmation windows in the middle of their rotation even for planned uses of the skill feel? I don’t want to be annoyed by random pop-ups while I’m trying to do my rotation just because some person decided that they wanted to have control over another player and dictate when they can and cannot use their skill.

Do you actually know what real anti-social behavior is, or are you seriously trying to say that someone who uses a Rescue skill in a video game is a sociopath? Even though the ones who troll may be annoying, they are likely a far cry from a true sociopath.
