Expanding "Report RMT Activity" to include shadow bans

Would it be possible if someone received more than one of these reports sent about them that they could be automatically shadow banned from speaking? I'm grateful for the quick reporting process but they can carry on advertising their RMT sites for a long time before anything can be done.

If a report would stop their text from appearing to other players that would be more effective to deter them from doing it at all and save the rest of us a lot of grief.

This would have no potential for abuse at all.

The problem is they have bots scripted to do their little advertising thing then log out, delete the character, make a new character, repeat.

All I want is for the "Report RMT activity" to apply some sort of temporary blacklist effect to the character in question (until I change zones, until I log out, 24h, take your pick).

It'll work like a charm, its not like the current report system that GM's "review before acting" is not being abused at all, i'm sure an automated chat-ban will be used responsibly.

On a serious note tho, i understand that you have good intentions by making this suggestion but doubt it'll work, at all.

Even if its used responsibly, i dont see what'll stop them from switching from muted bot on server A and log with bot on server B till mute is lifted.
Even if it was account wide they'd just switch accounts, they got no shortage of those.

As long as we don't have even a basic anti-bot muting or even banning bots will be completely futile.

With a shadow ban the user is unaware others are not receiving their messages so I doubt the bot will detect it's ineffectiveness. Shadow bans tend to be temporary so even if it hit an innocent character it would be temporary. The game for the most part is still playable without ever typing communication so I don't believe it would be debilitating to be hit with it.

your self-justification is fallacious at best.

In Elder Scrolls Online they added a limit to character deletion a while back. You get 3 deletes, and they recharge at a rate of approximately 1 per day. From what I read on the ESO forums, it was very successful and has massively cut down on spam.

I'd be down for that honestly as I can't see why any normal player would need more than that and it would cut down massively on the spam if they can't just delete as they want.

Honestly, I don't think actual bans or shadowbans are going to stop them as long they can abuse chargebacks to create an infinite amount of new accounts.

They actually get muted if they get hit with the Report RMT option enough times, but they can tell and simply bring in a new spammer if that happens.
