My problem with leveling up in FFXIV.

Are you serious right now?
1) I did not complain about chocobos I said I didn't want to run around a map on my chicken after working all day and not having much time.
2) I did not complain about traveling I said I didn't just want to spend a lot of time running around on a map with not having a lot time.
3) I did not complain about reading but AGAIN reading with only an hour or two to play.
4) I said nothing about gameplay at all and that particular quote was about the one class I can't seem to get into and not the game as a whole.
You're spinning things like CNN/FOX man, stop your trash comments and stop putting words in my mouth.
The whole point was that with little time in the afternoon I wanted to be more involved than just running around a map and reading. I don't understand why you're so offended but you need to stop twisting what I said.

Honestly, you're equally guilty of trash comments with how you wrote your initial post. You would have done better to say something like "I have only have an hour in the evenings to play. With the amount of time it takes to read and travel, I don't feel like I accomplish much if I try to do side quests. Anyone have some suggestions for content that would make more effective use of what time I have?"

Instead, you begin with complaints about world building and throwing out insults about chocobos. A chocobo is not a chicken, and many consider it insulting to call it one when you can type chocobo just as easily. It's little wonder some of those replying have a hostile reaction.

Probably better for you to focus on the constructive replies to your query than reply to those who took exception to your own trash comments.

Yes, so far FFXIV has the best leveling experience I came upon with.

nah dude, you aint alone, leveling is boring as FUCK

edit: its fun for the 1st time, but once you're good at the game and theres nothing to offer besides leveling alt classes, then YES, its extremely boring and linear. i want to die everytime i have to do 20 minutes dungeon

Anyway, to answer OP.
You can do a lot of things in this game besides the main story, however a lot of content is gated behind your progression of it so I do understand your need to finish it.
The truth is that 2 hours a day is not much for a game like FF14 due to it being extremely story heavy.
On top of that, the amount of story content this game already has from being out for 6 years now. You have quite a road ahead of you, is what I'm saying.

My advice is either to
-Switch it up. One day you progress story a bit, other day you explore what else the game as to offer.
-Suck it up (Which sucks, I know.. but the core features of the game won't magically change)
-Buy a story skip if it gets too much and read/watch videos on the story so you're ready for Shadowbringers
-Or find an MMO that is more sandbox. Those games give a lot more freedom.

Yes, so far FFXIV has the best leveling experience I came upon with.

After going back to LoTRO and SWTOR for a bit I'd have to agree, -it's like pulling teeth especially in LoTRO, with the /slight/ expection of GW2. I really did like GW2's 'heart' system where fate like instances have multiple ways to finish them. Beyond that I vastly prefer the ability to hop into dungeons with the amount of ease that FFXIV allows.
