My problem with leveling up in FFXIV.

I’m a pretty new player so take this from my point of view but I have had some issues with leveling in the game.

Until you get to the final expansion there seems to be no reason at all to do any questing other than the msq. And yeah FFXIV seems to do a great job for story but the problem for me has been that you do very little gameplay or experiencing the world and spend most your time traveling and reading all the story text. So when I get home at night and have an hour or two to play, the last thing I want to do is read and travel around a map so I end up just playing a low lvl job and doing levees so that I can relax and get some game action.

    Am I alone here?

You can always get a job to 16 and start doing leveling roulette and dungeons of your level.
That way you will have real party gameplay action, and will also make you a better player preparing you for endgame.

The quests provide you with high quality gear. If reading and traveling around a map is too much for you, it could be that RPGs just aren't for you.

Really? Too much for me? Come on man....
The point was that after working all day I would rather do something other than run around on a chicken or read a bunch of text.

You arent all that far off.

The low level experience is severely lacking these days.

In the expansions, sidequests start giving you gear, but I believe the MSQ in both HW and SB give you as much gear as you're ever going to need for your first job in that expansion.

That's the core part of Role Playing Games. That's like going into a restaurant and telling the staff the last thing you want is food or drink. Your playing Final Fantasy and complaining about chocobos. Are you sure FFXIV is actually appealing to you?

What you just said is the exact evidence that MMORPG is not suit for you. This is a time sink for you to slowly building up your character. You may want to try other genera.

I'm not complaining about chocobos or the story. I'm saying that more combat type stuff would be nice as reading and traveling after working all day is not doing it for me. I would like to be more involved if you know what I mean.

No I have been playing MMOs for a long time and story and travel is fine. Point is I want to be more involved I guess. Reading and traveling does not make an MMO...there is gameplay.

Well, there's always the duty roulettes and raid roulettes for that non-stop action and large exp rewards.
