The people fighting OP are not adding anything productive to this thread. Square Enix is not some struggling, indie company that needs to be white knighted. If you love a game then the best thing that you can do for it is to be open to criticism. That's how games improve. If people hadn't complained about 1.0 we would have never gotten ARR.

How OP feels about the MSQ is completely irrelevant to whether or not they should be playing FFXIV because the story is only a small portion of the game. Acting like the MSQ is the only thing this game has to offer does a huge disservice to a game that bursting with content.

To OP: don't devote every day to story quests. mix things up.
here are some things you can do on days you don't work on story:
    - unlock POTD. it can get challenging once you go past the 100th floor and the rewards are good
    - do roulettes, dungeons
    - fight the arr extremes (the drop mounts)
    - unlock the arr raids
    - try out alt jobs
    - check out gathering/crafting to see if you like it (crafting requires a gil investment if you dont have gatherers leveled)
    - play gold saucer mini games
    - collect minions
    - join linkshells to make friends and help them when needed/do content with them
    - check out housing

If you don't love a game, then you should be open to the idea to the possibility that the game isn't for you. The OP has not expressed any love for FFXIV in his original post, nor has he requested any advice in it. If people continue to do thing that make them unhappy, they are going to continue to be unhappy. I've criticized Square Enix so many times on these forums already that's it's bizarre I could ever be labeled as a "white knight" for them.

Well, I don't love this game. I like it, there are many flaws with XIV but I'm not going to say nothing here
because I can't be asked to be screamed at over my opinion tonight lol.

But OP understands the amount of text and how it's a story-driven game and he even said that's okay
but one does get very tired of going from point A to B, then go to C, back to B and A again or some crap
and just wanna get on with the meat of the story or gameplay.
I think there was a point where there was one NPC I went to...
Just for me to teleport all the way back somewhere else. For like ONE line.
Crap gets annoying with all the random filler crap and teleporting all over.
Minfilia was REALLY bad at this! It was actually probably her LOL.
(Not to mention we have Linkpearls so quit yoyoing me across the world!)

The genre being what it is makes me think those kind of quests will never go away, it's a core part of the RPG experience. Certainly filler is bad but going from A to B to C is how game devs get mileage out of the huge worlds they create.

This is a thread asking for people's opinion. Silencing opposing viewpoint is the opposite of productive.

Everyone should be open to criticism, that includes the OP. But do you really expect that a complaint about traveling and reading is meaningful? This game is filled with reading and traveling all throughout the MSQ for all expansions, not just ARR/early leveling experience, and the OP acknowledged that it's still true with Heavensward. And it's true for side quests as well, not just the MSQ.

How OP feels about the MSQ is completely irrelevant to whether or not they should be playing FFXIV because the story is only a small portion of the game. Acting like the MSQ is the only thing this game has to offer does a huge disservice to a game that bursting with content.
It's not that the MSQ is the only thing this game has to offer. It's that the MSQ is the gateway to many of the other things this game has to offer. So the OP simply has to manage their time and go through the MSQ at the pace they want.

Until you get to the final expansion there seems to be no reason at all to do any questing other than the msq. And yeah FFXIV seems to do a great job for story but the problem for me has been that you do very little gameplay or experiencing the world and spend most your time traveling and reading all the story text. So when I get home at night and have an hour or two to play, the last thing I want to do is read and travel around a map so I end up just playing a low lvl job and doing levees so that I can relax and get some game action.

    Am I alone here?
While I can somewhat appreciate your complaint, this is more or less the nature of all MMOs. Only the current expansion is generally relevant when it comes to gameplay since all the content prior has been done to death by the playerbase. On the one hand, sure, the dev team could give us more incentives to do Alexander or Deltascape—which would be great for new players. I, myself, never got to experience Coil at its peak until Ultimate. In doing so, however, it forces a good portion of people to redo content they're likely tired of. For example, I'm done with Stormblood and have no real pressing desire to revisit it. Heavensward is a bit different, but that may be bias on my part because I adore Heavensward and the Ishgard setting as a whole.

Your best option is to level other jobs when you just feel like playing the game and return to the story when you have more time.

Dude just stop, why are you trying to pick fights over absurd reasons like calling chocobos chicken? You made your point.

This is why I don't get how mods operate here, people like you should be the ones getting banned for being toxic.

    Keyword: "[...] people fighting OP"

This is a public forum so of course you're free to disagree with OP, debates are healthy. That statement was directed towards the people that are derailing the thread with arguments unrelated to the topic at hand.

Anyway, OP has already stated multiple times that they don't dislike the story. They just want to get more involved. It's a valid critique. So valid, in fact, that it's been discussed in a previous live letter. It's why they're trimming down ARR for 5.3

I've already given my advice to OP so there really isn't anything else left for me to say. Hopefully it'll be of some help, if not then I hope someone else suggests something better.

Shadowbringers? Nice expac, but I wish I'd have been playing it instead of watching & reading.

Dont know what you were doing then... last couple of questa were read a bit, fly everwhere, kill a lot, fly everywhere back, get reward, read a tiny bit.

But thats how it is. Starts off with iconic blasting off with reading and dungeons, and then starts tapering off.
