I think it matters who reports first. For example, the forums. There's a lot of holier than thou back and forth that gets less and less passive aggressive as pages go on, but despite both sides being antagonistic, whoever reports first "wins."

I dont shy from filing reports in game, but I know if someone was petty enough, I'd get a warning as well. Because even though the one reporting may have done something just as reportable, I don't think GMs can carry out an extra punishment on their own.

Why should they care about your side of the story? You said obviously enough to validate for punishment - it doesn't matter why you did it. You can also report the other guy so they get punished too.

I feel like you didn't even read the discussion. lol I do enjoy the "I'm above you." attitude, I really do, but if you refer to previous posts i'm looking to gather data for an assignment and this managed to perk my interest to use it for it. If you just want to feel superior I get it, but otherwise it takes less than 5 minutes to read whats been said..

How do you know they didn’t issue a warning to that person already? Also, on a highly related note, if you feel a warning is needed for that person you send the report and GMs looks through it.

Once again please read the discussion -_- I already know this. If you don't have actual input it get a bit tedious having everyone repeat the same thing because they couldn't read previous posts.

It does seem like GM's in this game do not care about the context and just if a rule was broken. As an example in WoW I was reported for sending a MT regarding a player in the party and within that comment I did mention said player should go choke on their own bile among other things. Was venting with my guild while running the content with in the party. When the GM asked to speak with me they asked for my side and confirmed it by looking at the logs and saw that I was in fact having a conversation with my guild and even told me a time where they have done something similar and just told me to be more careful next time.

Now I cannot confirm if this counted as a warning towards my account, being as when I asked they said no action would be taken since it was an honest mistake and the person in question was not intended to see my comment in the first place. So they felt that no action needed be taken. If I were to do something like that here I probably would be rightfully punished, since my comment did break the rules end of story. I guess I prefer the more human aspect of WoW GM's in the past over the iron fist approach FFXIV GM's have.

Though for all I know they lied to me and I did get a strike on my account and they simply told me otherwise to prevent needless back and forth and end up wasting time of the GM fighting for something that was out of their control.

That would give me the biggest anxiety of not knowing, thank you for the input though! :> Noted.

I agree I wish we could see a history for what we have been reported for and what action has been taken against our account, since not knowing the exact details would bother me and I would ponder on that issue for days if not months. I obsess over things I do not know and wish to understand until I understand it.

In this case, he could have very well been reported but it was an honest accident. I would be curious on what would happen if a GM saw the full context.
