Hi,
I recently bought a new 1440p monitor, and FFXIV was one of the games I was most excited to play in a higher resolution. It's such a visually stunning game, so the higher frame rates / crisper graphics was going to be great!...
Until I tried playing with the UI scale. The two choices are 100% or 150% UI scale (as 200% is for 4k, and doesn't seem to change the UI at all on a 1440p monitor).
The problem here is that 1440p is 1/3rd larger (133.33%) of 1080p. The 100% UI scale is too small, and the 150% UI scale is too big.
"Don't worry!" I hear you cry, "You can just change the size of individual HUD elements!"
This further falls apart because a) not all HUD elements can be adjusted, b) not everything scales properly, and c) some HUD elements (such as popups) can only be adjusted when they actually appear, which gets tedious.
A UI scale of 100% with HUD elements increased to 120-140% gives a roughly equivalent size, but things like character / NPC nameplates & combat text don't scale so they're quite small. Also, icons for inventory and equipment just get a stretched version of the 100% scale icon, so they look noticeably fuzzy compared to the rest of the UI.
A UI scale of 150%, with HUD elements reduced to 80-90% makes character / NPC nameplates & combat text intrusively large (especially in large combat situations). And I'm pretty sure the inventory icons are still just blown up versions of the 100% scale icons...
Really trying not to be fussy here, but I'm just finding myself stuck between eye-strainingly small or visually disruptively large. And the look / feel of Shadowbringers is losing its appeal when the UI is distractingly fuzzy / poorly sized, and leaving me unmotivated to play.
It'd be great if there were more flexible ranges of overall UI scale to accommodate 1440p (which, let's face it, is a pretty common resolution these days!).
Suggestions on how to overcome this problem in the meantime are also appreciated.
