    1.0 Characters - City State - Question

Long story short, I played in 1.0 but when ARR released I started a new character so I could play with friends.

Recently, I decided to level up and play my legacy character (tattoo ftw) but I noticed his city state was Gridania when he was created in uldah in 1.0.

How are/were city states assigned to 1.0 characters? It seems like mine was assigned based off where I chose to start him in 2.0?

If it matters, I never completed the story in 1.0.

I'm curious about others experience and want sure where to ask. Thanks everyone in advance!

I don't know much about 1.0 but it could possibly be because maybe the starting area of your starting job changed? Since that's what determines where you start now, whatever class you decide to be at level 1.

The starting areas for the classes are exactly the way they were in 1.0. Apart from the addition of ARN obviously.

This has always confused me too. I remember very clearly when I logged into ARR for the first time I walked up to the gates of Ul'dah which I'm pretty sure is also where I started in 1.0. But when I watch the cutscenes back on the Unending Journey, it has me starting in Limsa. I'm positive I didn't start in Limsa, I'm also positive I was BRD when I logged into ARR proper for the first time (I was on BRD for the fall of Dalamud stuff on the last day of 1.x) but I did go straight to levelling ARN in ARR so I could get my hands on SCH. So that's the only explanation I can come up with for the switch to Limsa. No idea how I got there from Carteneau tho ....

City-states weren't assigned to 1.0 characters. "Choose your starting city." was the second to last menu of 1.0 character creation. If you wanted to start as a lancer in Limsa Lominsa even though it was on the other side of the continent from your guild, more power to ya.

Moose is right. 1.0 did things a little differently in that you were free to choose your starting city and starting class seperately, and not only were you not forced into only being able to start as a Disciple of War of Magic (in other words, you could start the game even as a Disciple of the Hand or Land right off the bat if you so desired, hence there was gameplay allowances in the story for crafters and gatherers during story duties), your choice of starting city did not have to be associated with your class (for instance, I started 1.0 in Gridania but as a GLA). Naturally this made things slightly difficult at the start if your class was not associated with that city as it made accessing the class's Guild difficult if it wasn't located there, but it wasn't a big thing (main scenario had no requirement for it).

ARR changed things in that your starting city was automatically chosen when you select your starting class based on the location of that class's Guild (this is because one of the early story quests for your starting city in ARR specifically required you to visit the Guild for that class as part of the beginning tutorial), and could not change it. This was the case even for 1.0 players who transferred their original 1.0 characters into ARR (hence because I wanted to still start in Gridania I just started ARR as CNJ and then immediately switched to GLA anyway, as it was a perk of starting as a 1.0 character in that you had all your earlier levels, EXP, gear and items available, and could switch classes/Jobs immediately, assuming you unlocked that class/Job and had EXP in it already.

It was just one of those changes for gameplay reasons that Yoshi made for ARR.
