The unique/untradable storage box is generally reserved for items that can only be obtained through events and other gear that cannot be obtained more than once. As such, items such as Ifrit weapons and Moogle weapons can be obtained more than once, and therefore aren’t storable.

We will have a Topics article regarding the item storage box soon, so please hang on for more details.
If you want players to have all classes leveled and actively enjoy them; don't make equipment space an artificial barrier. There is a lesson to be learned from FFXI here, and that lesson is that restricted storage space (other than the space slots available themselves) is antiquated and inefficient. We should not need a special NPC to store weapons, or a special box to hold trade goods, or a special alchemy table to hold potions. I want a stable, sortable, and most of all, functional source to store goods that aren't used on a daily basis.

The spaces on retainers work for now, but as you continue to add Unique/Untradable gear to the game, that is a continued number of slots that will be taken away. In time, this will become a SERIOUS issue if you do not address it NOW.

Using "it will drop again" is a terrible excuse. Plenty of players have lamented their disgust over the current loot distribution methods. Even with primal tokens (totem/charm) the amount of time spent trying to "re-earn" a weapon would be a complete waste of time. Furthermore, this doesn't even begin to address the rare gear from dungeons.

This is unacceptable, please stress the fact that we need nonrestrictive storage space to the development team.

As the Dev Team continues to add more and more gear from raids inventory will always be a problem. Add to this the Mats needed for crafting and it will only get worse unles they address this before Ver 2.0. Porter Moogles anyone?

When did they say they WANT you to have all classes leveled?

Being able to carry 200 different pairs of pants is just as unrealistic as being able to change your pants mid-battle. You people are inconsistent.

Just increase the stacks. 99 to 999 and 999 to 9999.

Plus, make dark matter lvl 5 fix all the gears. That way 40% of space will be freed.

the problem is becoming more of a dev created issue then anything else. they release 500000000000 pieces of unique gear per patch now and then add more items and recipes in the same patch and say well we added all this new stuff, but we are taking away inventory space and the new gear is not able to be stored in the boxes. it is short sighted and not very well thought through.

then they turn around and talk about the new stuff coming out shortly and it will have even more new gear and that will not be storable either. then add in a second job for each class. at some point we will have more gear in game than the character does between them and both of their retainers and it continues to just get worse.

This is absolute fail. What is the point, then?

Armoire: You can store everything that you never wanted to keep anyway.

It's for the people who like to collect the event items and one time only items. I'm sure once 2.0 comes out and players can no longer obtain the primal weapons, turning them into "one time only" items they'll be storable.

I'm just disappointed with it because at first glance it SEEMS USEFUL and then I realized that 90% of the things I am holding onto and would have liked to have stored can't be placed here at all. I will get about 4-5 inventory slots from it instead of 10 or 15 or 30. I don't get the rather harsh seeming repair requirement and the stripping of spirit bond, but i guess since all those egg helms and kabutos i've been hoarding away haven't lost any durability ot accumulated any bond it doesn't matter.

My reaction when I read the post about it went from "OMGFREAKINGAWESOMEYES!" to "...Neato."

All I'm saying is, if SE is going to take the time to give people a storage box, why not make it so you can put whatever you want in it, and actually free up a few more item slots for people.

I get it though, I do. I know that the reason for why they won't let players store whatever they want in it is that they are concerned that people will use it to store multiple rare/ex items in the way that bazaars and retainers are currently used to do the same thing. Which I guess would allow players to store an additional kokoroon's dark scale mail in addition to the three I'm sure everyone is already running around with, totally destroyinating everyone's immersion in the process and throwing a monkey wrench into the well-oiled, streamlined machine that is the game economy.

But, it's not really "because you can obtain multiple Ifrit weapons", it's "because you can obtain multiple Ifrit weapons and inventory is inherently flawed and we don't want players to abuse our borked up storage system."

I have seen SE do this kind of thing for years, insisting on dictating how and where and what a player can do and placing restrictions on the system that turn it into more of a hassle than anything else as a round-about way of putting a bandaid on a bullet hole, when it would save everyone time and frustration if they just fixed the problem at the source.

A storage box that you can put any piece of gear in and access from multiple locations: AWESOME

A storage box that you can put event gear in and access from multiple locations, provided you repair those items first and don't mind losing the spirit bond on them: kinda meh

Seeing this kind of thing is a throw back to XI, and the type of system that I hated in that game and was looking to not have to deal with when I started playing XIV. I would even go as far as to call it "Tanaka-esque". Maybe I would be a little less irked if the announcment had come with something like "We'll put in some real expanded mog-house style storage with a later expansion of player housing in patch x.xx or version 2.0" or "We are working on fixing inventory bugs that allow players to hold more than one rare/untradeable item so that a wider range of items can be stored in the Armoire."

I hope that real storage does show up in 2.0 and hopefuly it will be a system with little to no restrictions, time-sinks, or downsides for the players using it.

    EDIT:

I'm honestly not even irritated for my own sake, because I have one ifrit weapon. I'm irritated on behalf of people I know, who have every single ifrit and Moogle drop and are now working on Darklight with Garuda drops around the corner. It's going to suck for them not being able to take advantage of such a feature to store those drops.

Pretty much summed it up well. I'm also getting tired of the "band-aid" style of development/management. It's like someone punched you square in the nose, and instead of giving you an apology and an ice pack, they just give you a rag and tell you to clean up your blood. Don't get me wrong, I like this game whenever there is something to do, but I still wonder if the day will come when I look back at my release day purchase of ffxiv and not feel utter distaste of being royally ripped off.
