I'm a little confused. I must have played different MSQ than everyone else... As storylines go, FF14 is lackluster at best. The story of FF14 MSQ is about as exciting as the story for the 1987 FF.

Different strokes for different folks though.

WELL DO I HAVE GOOD NEWS FOR YOU.

You can create a new character on the login screen and do exactly that!

On a serious note, the new game+ they've implemented is similar in concept as a new game+ where you keep all your levels/gear/etc that many other games feature. If you were wanting a full wipe new game+ then you can create a new character to do that as a substitute, but the new game+ they've put in is simply for people to re-enjoy the story with and replay certain instances they love. I know many friends who will be using this feature to go back to instances like the Nadaam, The major solo battles throughout SB and the like. It'll be a feature many story lovers will use, just as there'll be many people who will ignore it.

I will personally be using it, since it means I don't have to re-level characters to experience certain parts of the story again.

The inn doesn't let you view everything and experience any of the solo instances, nor does it let you speak to all the NPCs along the story objectives that have a lot of flavor dialogue and thoughts on certain situations that helps to bring the story even more alive.
It also doesn't let you visit some cinematic areas you're sent through in the story, like the area right before you engage the trial of 3.3. For story lovers, new game+ will be an immensely useful feature.

Some things are not for some people.

Over here, we have Savage content... which parsers are HAPPY to inform 'underperformers' where they do not belong.

And on this side, we have ULTIMATE for those hardcore players that really want to test their mettle.

And if we look to this side of the ride, we have almost every single other area of the game that provides exp, rewards, shinies... ways to 'progress' that players bulldoze their way through in a never-ending quest to 'advance'.

And this new area? Oh, this area is for players who wish to go back and experience something called 'Story'.

While for some things I get they need to offer the carrot to avoid complications for other players, this is about your personal journey. Therefore, it offering rewards of any kind seems silly when the whole point of it is to revisit old story.
We used to have PvP rewards. Doing more PvP got you more abilities, stats, and gear that had morale to boost PvP damage.
But they removed it so it would be more acessable to new players. Apparently it was unfair for new PvPers to compete against those who worked hard for PvP rewards. Then they removed most abilities from PvP so it would be easier for new players to pick up. Then they added cosmetic non PvP rewards so more players would play it. PvP has already been completely ruined by squeenix so more PvErs would play it, but all that happened was that PvErs complained because, at the end of the day, they still hate it. Whilst making PvP completely unappealing for those who DO like PvP.

I don't care one way or another if NG+ comes with rewards. I just want to replay the multiple solo instances that the Unending Journey doesn't allow you to do. This game already has way too many options to gain experience as it is.

You must've missed all the praise Shadowbringer's story was getting. Heavensward's narrative was also very well received.

Even if you want to rationalize that some people will play the feature, and i will be honest, i doubt even that. Only those with nothing else to do will do it, and once they reach the part they wanted to see they will just stop. If you truly cared about the game as i am sure you think you do, you would recognize this feature is not a good use of resources and it's not meeting player expectations.
You're such an angry person. I feel like you may need to step back and realize it's not all about you. New Game Plus is coming whether you like it or not. Don't use it. No one is forcing you. Those of us who love the story and just want to enjoy it again will use it.

Not having any rewards, if that is correct, means the only people doing it will be the people who watch the cutscenes and read the text. And I highly suspect that is who it is aimed at anyway.

Honestly I like rewards with my stuff that I do, I know it's all part of that addicting experience but "do it just for the fun of it" often only works for me if I think it's REALLY REALLY fun. So I'd do a lot less things in this game otherwise. A lot of stuff is fun, not saying the game is bad- just "progression" is part of makes fun really fun (for me) and without growth which I find fun then it's got to be amazingly good gameplay experience, like some jobs are not as fun as other jobs (to me) but I like leveling them up to collect the achievements and just to progress it (because it has feedback of growth).

I'm for rewards to stuff even if the concept of their creation is to cater to a specific audience. That said I can see a lot of issues with leaving the MSQ new game+ for certain rewards (probably larger issue for bots and gil or of course huge issue if they added the fantasia). . . That's what I thought it could be a really fun hype pre-expansion event where the new game plus mechanic rewards players based on progress through the system (like at each bracket you complete, once, you get some fairly big reward- like a huge pile of exp and something). This way players would be encouraged to recall the events for the next game, and for those who wanted to do msq again but didn't want to "waste their time" not progressing could also progress. I know it might sound sad but that's really the truth of it for many people, it's why I use boss examples sometimes- "would you rather do it the fast way or the more fun way" and so many will pick the fast way even if they might say it's less fun (like skipping whole sections of dungeons because we gotta go fast).

There will be a number of players who will do it because they /love/ whatever content, you could remove all rewards, you could even make it cost them something to enter and they'd still do it but those people I think are going to be a lot smaller group than if you had also included the carrot as sad as that may sound to some people. Carrot has some serious power :P. And again I admit having rewards in the msq, at least outside of one time reward event or something, could lead to potential issues of botting or ignoring other intended means of playing the game (so I'm not saying go forward with wild abandon, but something that could be a nice looking into even if it's just an event occasionally). Beyond that I also expect this system to help add value to some other future system, at least I get that feeling it's going to be incorporated into some future experience for a later expansion.

Personally I don't like gear factoring into PvP and I like PvP. I wouldn't mind more skills either (that are default available or picked from the list, not level obtained), or perhaps some other rpg-ish content added to pvp (could imagine something along the lines of your squadron, since that's also GC related). But I like the balance that a veteran of pvp is equal to a new player except for their own potential skill.

Herein lies the problem I guess. Can't have PvP rewards or it would be unfair to new players entering PvP,
And we can't have "non-PvP" rewards (cosmetics) without PvErs getting their knickers in a twist because they want those rewards, but they don't want to do PvP.

Squeenix removed the stats and ability PvP rewards, so they had to put in other rewards, or else you wouldn't get anything for doing PvP.
TBH, I personally don't like that people get mad over cosmetic rewards in PvP, yet cosmetic rewards in PvE content is just fine for them.
