A lot of fun stuff in the presentation but blue mage stuffed had me a bit: "....".

(imo) Least fun I had with Blue Mage was when I was doing level appropriate content in a group of other blue mages, I had the most fun obliterating stuff while leveling but that strictly relied on 1 or 2 spells on repeat. There was little reason to party when you were destroying stuff except to share exp, and if the content around blue mage is balanced so you're not creating monster vapor then I feel like it strays away from that and into the more "someone is on white wind duty, another is going to do awful damage and vaguely tank, and the rest of us spam the same set of skills with a few using an oGCD or buffed DoT if they grinded for it".

So the blue mage log sounds like they're moving further away from solo god idea I had hoped they'd go (if not DF-able, or both) into "can do some very old content, but with a less engaging rotation and not clearly better either"- I haven't played this new update obviously so I wont say that's what it is.. but to me it sounds like that.

I had hoped blue mage would become a sort of TCG (trading card game, magic the gathering, hearth stone, etc) / Affix Legendary (Diablo 3 item) deck building kind of concept where each new wave of levels adds "cards/affixs" (spells) that could turn into entire different sets of spells and pro/cons- as well as a meta mixup at each new wave (when new skills are added people might redesign their entire loadouts). Like how you have different types of decks or a set of skills and legendary affix in diablo 3 can mean an entirely unique play style.

Really hope they're taking feedback into consideration as they go forward, and perhaps they are and it's just not time to show that they have yet. . . Or that feedback they're taking in just isn't in the direction I'll enjoy but they're doing something lol.

At least for my personal enjoyment, I had really wanted blue mage in FFXIV (as a job I could main) and while now sad I couldn't main blue mage like I loved doing in FFXI I thought . . . "at least I could go back and do some non-reasonably-soloable content solo then, make whatever savage / ex raid content I didn't do before cry and have fun doing it", but just seems like Blue Mage is solidifying around an idea of Blue Mage I've no interest in. I don't say that out of some cruel desire on whoever is making it either (don't want to make anyone feel bad or threaten subs and what not, just trying to convey as a blue mage fan of other games I feel more like an ex-blue mage fan here). If some people think this is awesome I suppose that's great for them and SE has done something good (not everything has to please everyone), but my feedback I guess is "I was worried before release, I was worried and sad after release, and now I'm potentially more worried".

Still have to see what the new skills are, job quests, and what else the log has going for it, so there is a lot of room for "more info"- and so I'm not fixed on any feeling, just a quick take (and up for change) feeling on reading the changes coming to blue mage.

The things that I expected to be added were mentioned. The cap at 60, job quests, new spells, more carnival trials. They really didn't go much in depth about BLU. Quickly skimmed through the slides and on to PvP. That's to be expected for the first part of the live letter for 5.1. A general tease for the coming patch. I expect they will do a demonstration for the second part for the new content like they did in 4.5 with Yoshi running around with it and learning and casting random spells.

What I hope they do mention for the second part of the live letter is if BLU is able to do PotD/HoH, Squadrons, NG+, Diadem/Eureka, etc. I'd be disappointed if it couldn't at least do PotD at 60. I'd even settle for it being able to do that at a later point after its fully implemented as long as they give any indication it will eventually get access to those areas. If not, that would be my feedback: to ease some restrictions.

I dont think blue ever be allowed in deep dungeons would kinda trivialize the solo aspect

I don't see why that'd be an issue though, so long as blue mage is in it's own leaderboard. I think trivialization is an important feature of many themepark mmos- to be honest, that the game self nerfs over time to allow more and more players of skill levels and time ability to play and enjoy the vast majority of content provided.

Except maybe Ultimate, which can forever be a trophy and a masochist paradise. Everything else though, given time (sometimes substantial time), should I think slowly be ground to dust by the rolling mountain of difficulty/challenge.

Took me 2 days to get BLU to max level, get all the non-primal spells, and complete the Masked Carnival + Perfect Blue title. I haven't touched it since outside of self destructing infront of new players I've introduced for the game.

10 additional levels is just a bandaid on a job that desperately needs to be more than a circus attraction.

I can't believe they're still spending resources on this dead on arrival content.

Why take away the 1 thing that would actually be fun?

Not even the overworld. BLU's dps is so low it takes more than twice as long as other classes to beat FATES and a large majority of boss fates are Death immune. At level 50 it has no applicable purpose in the open world besides two S ranks.
I'm not sure BLU would even be good in PotD in its current state. It'd fail dps checks on the highest floors and its heal is almost ineffective if you get knocked to critical health. RDM is just all round better.

It was basically designed as a Carnival class and nothing else.
