I did not get on that bandwagon (entry level subscription only allowed one character per server) but more than just a very few did just that. They made and leveled up alternate characters just to get other specializations for them. Fortunately they stopped making all the new recipes specialist only, and only made a few specialist only.

Specialist was good at first. But it became useless in SB endgame crafting.

At present its only good for a few minion crafts.

Roth, I have 2 alts on my server and I never bothered leveling them to specialize multiple crafts. I could easily swap enough specialists when it was relevant.

I'm hoping the restoration makes the extra quality potential from the specialist actions actually necessary, honestly.

If for no other reason than the expanded recipe list, I really enjoyed the concept of the Specialist when it was introduced in Heavensward. Of the people who craft, very few are willing to make multiple characters to cover every specialization.

That actually helps me out a bit in understanding things. I'm on a legacy account. We get 8 characters per server by default. I didn't know if that was a standard or not.

I suspect abilities like Basic, Standard and Advanced will be pruned outright or merged together. They're effectively worthless outside of leveling. So it wouldn't surprise me if they did something like make Careful Synthesis I and II universal. Honestly, they could do that with a number of skills that have long since fallen out of use. I'm more concerned about the state of crafting as a whole. Never have I seen prices on the current tier crafted gear reach five digits except maybe the rings by the odd numbered patch. Presently, on my server at least, it's not even worth making them anymore. Just flip the mats.

I was one of them. I hate hate HATE not having the ability to be self sufficient if I am wiling to put in the work for it. EQII tried this as well and it died a similar fiery death eventually.

As to the topic, I doubt we'll see pruning of cross class skills. We may see them get the Steady Hand II treatment and be given to all classes. I think they'll just reduce the button bloat and have your Synthesis and Touch level up instead of being separate skills and some further pruning on skills no one ever has on their bar. There are plenty.

It would be fun to have new unique skills. Like CD (only usable x times per craft).
I also like proc reliant skills as they make crafting more engaging.

Even if they do eliminate the cross-class actions, there's still the recipes, which usually require cross-crafted materials. In that case, there are three options:

    1. Buy the mats on the MB (I will NOT buy 99 of I need 3)
    2. Level the other craft(s) and make them yourself.
    3. Don't craft those items.

That's the way it was on WoW when I left. I had leveled an alchemist and herbalist so I could make my own flasks, but the herbs always sold for more than the flasks made from them. So, I just sold the herbs, and bought the flasks someone else made. The time spent leveling the alchemist was completely wasted.
