Paladin and Dark Knight already exist. If a Rune Fencer / Mystic Knight came out I'd want it to be DPS to separate people who want a Spellblade from people who want RDM to be a hybrid white magey thing. As a tank it would just be another sword tank ( we have 3 ) and another magic tank ( we have two, both use swords ).
I don't mean to shoot the idea down outright but a new tank needs to definitely not use a sword and Red Mage needs one clear job identity, not force two clashing ideals ( swordmage and healing support mage ) under one banner.
RUN in FFXI was just FFXI NIN wielding a great sword, and as we already have DRK for that, it's a completely redundant Job I'm sorry to say. We already have RDM for a blade-wielding spell-slinger anyway so that's yet another nail in RUN's coffin.
Personally I'd rather see an entirelly new Job here in FFXIV rather than yet another rehash of a FFXI Job.
Been wanting to see a Hammer Tank for a long time because I find it a interesting Tank Job to be a Tank that focus on Crushing the enemy's defense and attack damage through a Hammer Crush mechanic.Paladin and Dark Knight already exist. Could add some rune themed abilities for RED personally I would like RED more if it was more about weaving spells in-between slashes.
my reply isnt quite what ur looking for, but i feel GNB should have had a bit more of a "concept" behind it, other than a simplified tank, with ammo for an oGCD.
it lacks a real theme imo, due to trying to base an entire theme around a weapon.
IMO GNB should have been some sort of Mystic Knight (FF5), Runic Knight (FF6), Rune Fencer, type of job that used the gunblade as a sort of modernized/technological version.
Have Runic to redirect all Magical dmg towards yourself. (Party wide AoE might kill you, due to being hit 8 times with a single aoe, but if a tank is targeted with a magical TB, u can redirect it towards you.)
It wouldnt lower its dmg, but instead you take the full dmg, and then heal based on how much dmg it did to you a second later. (this clashes with super bolide, but then again, i felt that invuln belonged to another job, since sacrificing HP sounds more like a DRK skill, rather than a user of a gunblade. GNB shoulda got something else.)
An alternative is to heal MP, for DPS, so you want to maximize dmg taken, and maximize the number of runics that take dmg from magical attacks. (This only causes issues with double GNBs in the same PT)
Using Mystic Knights "Spell-Blade" or FF11s RDM "En-Spell" effects for part of its aesthetic/theme.
The rest of GNB would be fine as is. Maybe some small adjustments, but this mostly seems to fit better than a job that doesnt have much identity outside of its weapon.

If SE wants to implement RUN into FFXIV, They will find a way to make it work, just like how DRK is a DPS in ffxi that uses Scythes and greatswords, or WHM or GEO using clubs and shield.
Remember, FFXI SCH is able to use black and white magic,a nuker and SCH has storm spells which grant weather and +stat to whomever it is casted on.
While FFXIV sch uses a fairy
I hope geomancer is a healer bell weilder
Watch it becomes a Hammer Tank Job that use Terrain Mechanic that gives them special protective Abilities with the lore they original used light armor but started using Heavy Protective armor so their defenses can be more effective in battle and apply Terrain Magic effects on their armor such as Lava providing the passive to Burn all enemies around the Geomancer while Earth applied to the Armor to create a stronger Defense Armor.

Except it's already in the lore that geomancy in FFXIV is literally just what Conjury is called in the Far East, so GEO is just a Doman CNJ - with a little bit of astromancy thrown in for good measure. So even if GEO was implemented (I'd like to say it will never be implemented, but I said the same about a gunblade Job and, well, I kind of had to eat my words with a side dish of humble pie, so now I'm erring on the side of caution and just saying anything is possible but unlikely), it would probably be nothing like how players would imagine it to be.Watch it becomes a Hammer Tank Job that use Terrain Mechanic that gives them special protective Abilities with the lore they original used light armor but started using Heavy Protective armor so their defenses can be more effective in battle and apply Terrain Magic effects on their armor such as Lava providing the passive to Burn all enemies around the Geomancer while Earth applied to the Armor to create a stronger Defense Armor.
