As others have pointed out, this mini-game is meant to be a community effort. We compare ideas and figure out the clues, we work together to test things out, then we all profit. In practical terms the hardcore fashion report people(like Kaiyoko) tend to have these solved for items within a couple minutes, with the dyes typically taking a couple hours to finalize.

Looking specifically at this weeks version, all of these clues have been used at least once before(though "Son of a Gun" was very early on and hasnt reappeared since) so we can use past experience to guess at what the results should be.

Head (Chapeau du Choice): This has previously meant a beret. There are over a dozen different "beret" pieces you can choose from(some crafted, some purchased with currency, some for achievements), they should all score gold.
Body (Son of a Gun): We only found a few good items for this one last time out(over a year ago). One of the item models that scored high was the Wrangler's Jacket. If you look at the in game model for that one, theres an ammo belt on the left hip. There are a few other pieces that have the same look(gaganaskin jacket of aiming) or other pieces that show bits of ammunition(ivalician fusiliers jacket). Im curious exactly how this list will look when it gets compiled this weekend.
Legs (Old Country): The old country refers to Sharlayan designs. Most prominently available in the "Shire" series of gear.
Feet (Short Boots): This one seems obvious enough.

So for tips, if the spring set is your goal then the main thing is to keep at it. Rose and Kasumi keep a running total of the points youve scored, and once you earn enough thats when she starts selling more items. Scoring 80+ each week is ideal, both to keep the required weeks to get to your goal down and for maximum MGP. So even on a week when you cant get all the points, still make sure they judge you to add to your total(and really, 80+ typically either means 2 right items or 1 right and a few correct dyes so it isnt THAT hard to consistently do). As for scoring, you need an item equipped in every slot - not just the 4 youre being graded on. And if all else fails, keep your last attempt open(so no more then 3 experiments) and look up the right answer to make sure you get your points. As Nosam pointed out, theyve typically got a post up on the reddit with the right result early friday morning(as well as one early tuesday morning where they analyze the clues and make guesses as to what this week will be) - gives you all weekend to get the items together.
