    Blank Character Select screen

    When I connect to the Primal Data center and try to access the character select screen I am met with a blank screen with just the normal background and the only button available is quit, which brings me back to the title screen. I have tried reinstalling the game and resetting my settings, but neither have worked.

    Good morning and thank you for posting in the Final fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.

    Do you experience this issue with all your characters? Or is only one character not shown? Do you experience this issue when attempting to connect to a different data center?

    Its only when I try to connect to Primal, I can connect to the JP data center fine and to Aether and see my characters there. Possibly may occur with other data centers but I have not tested this.

    You may be experiencing lag when connecting to the Primal data center. Are you connected directly to the router or are you using wifi?

    I'm connected directly to my router via Ethernet and I've let it set upwards of an hour and it never loads.

    Good morning and thank you for the reply.

    Please make sure the game is allowed through the firewall. Please also try the the following:

    Update Internet Explorer:
    Open the IE browser, open the "Tools", go to "Internet Options" and adjust the following settings:
    - Under the "General" tab, please delete ALL browser history.
    - Under the "Security" tab, please move the slider to the lowest possible settings or no higher than "Medium"
    - Under the "Privacy" tab, click “Advanced” and select ‘Accept’ under both First Party and Third Party Cookies.
    - Under the "Advanced" tab, please make sure that "Allow software to run or install even if signature is invalid" is CHECKED.
    - Make sure that all SSL and TLS (EXCEPT SSL 3.0) are CHECKED. [SSL 3.0 should be UNCHECKED]
    - Hit "Apply" to save the settings, and then "OK, to close the Internet Options menu.
    - Right-Click on the FFXIV launcher icon and select "Properties"
    - Go to the "Compatibility" tab, and change the compatibility mode to "Windows 7"
    - Hit "Apply", then "OK" to save the changes.
    - Please RESTART your PC now. Once your PC has been restarted, Right-Click the FFXIV launcher icon once more and select "Run as Administrator"

    Followed all these steps and I'm still seeing the same thing. Is there anything else I can try?

    Please try the following:

    -Reset router by turning it off, then back on
    -Use wired connection using an Ethernet cable
    -Port Forward – open the following ports:

    ▼TCP
    54992 through 54994,
    55006 through 55007,
    55021 through 55040
    -Contact ISP
