I always do. Doesn't matter if it's the bagger at the grocery store or the waiter or the janitor - thanking people can make their day.

Maybe you don't, I do, its only polite to say thank you.

If you thank all of these random people, you're a tool

If I was mopping the damn floor and some random person thanked me... It would feel condescending... I'd be offended and want to punch you

You: "Thank you for cleaning the shit off of this toilet, you provide a valuable service"
Me as a janitor: "Thank you for shutting the hell up"
