Yup. Leveling can be approached in several ways. You skip things without trying at your own risk.
Part of the game in this game is finding the most efficient way to level things for yourself/your play style.
IMO it's something that other games made us lose, by always pointing us to one and one path only. Playing FFXIV really made me aware and broke me free from the western MMO conventions. Not saying this is your case, but it was mine.

I guess you can say that i'm guilty of always looking for the most efficient way and hate it when i get the feeling of wasting my time (and i clearly get that from fates). Don't get me wrong i also think there are already some nice other things in game that you could do besides Roulettes and normal Dungeons (like Squadron or the fates) but there are way to inefficient and i really have a hard time to understand why SE can't fix that (they just need to raise the xp reward for most of those stuff).
If you like being efficient you should really like hunts, banging them out while you wait on a queue is a very optimum use of time, same with fatesI guess you can say that i'm guilty of always looking for the most efficient way and hate it when i get the feeling of wasting my time (and i clearly get that from fates). Savage Completion Rate ~5%+ of active players. Community: "Ugh stop catering to savage"
Ultimate Completion Rate ~1% of active players. Community: "Ugh stop catering to the hardcore raiders"
Frontline/ Rival Wings/ Hidden Gorge Mount Aquisition ~0.05-1% of active players. Community: "Ugh PVP is so dead in this game, they should stop investing in it"
Blue Mage Morbol Mount Aquisition ~0.01% of active players. Community: "WoW bLuE mAgE iS sO fUn AnD aCtIvE i CaN't WaIt FoR mOrE lImItEd JoBs"

If they change it then you will do the new most efficient thing and complain the others are not as efficient.I guess you can say that i'm guilty of always looking for the most efficient way and hate it when i get the feeling of wasting my time (and i clearly get that from fates). Am i wrong?

Depends, i think they are already a lot of other interesting activities ingame, the issue for me is most of them are not worth the time (in compare to dungeon Xp). For me it would be enough if they fix the amount of Xp you gain from stuff like Fates, Hunts, Trials, Squadron, Beast Tribes and after 73 Frontline Xp. I would like to do Combat Levels while waiting for Que but they didn't continued this feature also there are still no new beast tribes and doing the old are not worth the time after a certain lvl. I don't really ask for something new they should just make stuff that's already ingame worth your while.
I think the different activities you could do to lvl your class should at least be equal when it comes to time/xp and not that 1 or 2 things outperforms everything else.
I do FATES, all roulettes, hunts, and trusts daily. I am 8 levels from every job at 80. If you don't want to do it that is up to you. This way does work though and works well. Oh one more thing. I have never been bored during this process.

Just about anything will get boring if you do it over and over again. This includes the most efficient means to acquiring exp. You gotta mix it up even if another method isn't the best use of your time, because from my experience focusing too much on optimization and efficiency begins to cut into my enjoyment of leveling a job; or rather, make it more arduous that it has to be.
IOW if you like doing combat leves, FATES, or other means of getting exp outside of spamming roulettes and dungeons then do them. I am of a mind that if you are not doing something you enjoy in the game, then you are not making the best use of your dollar to play this game. As an example, I always craft my own gear during the leveling process. To gather all the materials needed and then craft it is not the most efficient use of my playtime by any means when I have the gil to just buy it all off of the MB, or even use the HQ stuff a little longer as the game design allows. But I really enjoy doing it. I do not enjoy spamming roulettes at all. I do them only because they are a daily bonus that also provide other rewards on top of the exp.
The other thing is rushing. I think a lot of people underestimate how detrimental this is to just about anything. If you are the type of player with a mentality that all the enjoyable stuff is at endgame, then there is absolutely zero that can be done to make leveling fun for you. The best you're going to get is 'less boring'.
I agree with crafting your own gear. I do it because I enjoy it and I can't wear something if it doesn't have my name on it.Just about anything will get boring if you do it over and over again. Battlecraft leves aren't a thing once you hit level 60. I wish they were, but I was told that apparently combat classes have too many ways to gain experience already?
