If it dyed better, I'd still be using it, all these years later.
Why they couldn't make the HA gear dye like Doga/Unei's stuff I will never understand.
You can still do some nice thing even at low level (only one mirage: the pants..... Because first WHM AF have an invisible pant and i'm only 48 on this char <.<)

Im sure everyone remembers spending most of Heavensward dressed as a literal clown
Can't say I remember that - I'm pretty sure I spent most of it in either my WHM relic robes or High Allagan coat.
"By golly do I love White Robes!" Says the Artist(s) behind healer gear. "I just can't get enough! I know! I'll add them to this dungeon!"

Says the Artist(s) behind tank gear (who are totally not the same people behind the healer gear). "I just can't get enough! I know! I'll add them to this dungeon!"

Also, you're calling some things "robes" that really aren't.
The Lv59 Sharlayan coat is not a robe, and everyone gets it.
Lv61 crop-top and skirt actually originates as (rather impractical-looking) melee gear.
Lv70 Skallic gear is white, but that's a theme for the set and the aiming/striking sets are probably "more white" than the healer.
Lv70 Alliance gear is a tunic or short coat, not a robe.
Lv75 Ravel Keeper set might have a big skirt but the top half certainly isn't a robe.
A browse through the crafted gear for healers, and not just the dungeon sets, also turns up more variety. And if it's white, it's probably dyeable. (Meanwhile, tanks get armour nine times out of ten.)
Lv52: shirt and vest
Lv54: robe (semi-open coat)
Lv55: (crafter/gatherer sets available to all classes; variant colour at Lv60)
Lv56: ruffled shirt
Lv58: priest robe
i150: Daystar armoured robe
i180: short tunic and matching boots
i220: short-sleeved tunic with separate skirt and detached sleeves; both better combined with other items
i250: himation (not a robe; top is quite revealing)
i255: tribal crop-top and skirt
Sky Pirate: a nice dress for female characters that really should have been altered for the male version; could have looked great as a coat with similar ruffles on it.
Sky Rat: bare chest / crop top, post-apocalyptic armour look
Lv62: robe/dress (male version needs a shortened skirt IMO, would look more like a tunic)
Lv64: robe
Lv66: short practical-looking tunic
Lv68: leather coat (design shared with tanks)
i320: robe
i350: robe
i380: kimono
i385: armour (previously melee gear)
Lv72: robe/dress
Lv74: sleeveless coat
Lv76: long coat
Lv78: dwarf mage robe
i450: it's the coat from Dun Scaith! Free* for the taking without needing to step foot in that accursed place in the vague hope that it drops and you win the loot roll!
* For a given value of "free" (read "available") but the gil cost still beats RNG raid loot by a mile.
And again, I think people in these discussions overlook the fact that others might actually want to dress their healer in thematic healer outfits, and have a choice of robes while following that traditional mage appearance - and that is what the costume designers tend towards. Armour for tanks, lighter gear for DPS, robes for mages. If you don't like that aesthetic for your character, you can look for alternatives: non-robe mage gear or generic gear that you can mix and match with the healer-specific stuff.
My chief complaint I guess isn't so much that there are so many robes, but most of the gear is so voluminous. It looks like its a good 30 or 40 pounds of fabric hanging off you.
For what it's worth, I think he was referring to this set

HW sets weren't that bad, I would've loved this set if it didn't dye so horribly and the undyable parts were puke-inducing lime green. Though to be fair I think all variations are just as bad, that's why I never see anyone wearing it /shrug

Indeed... I still like it. I'm just annoyed other jobs got the better color schemes
Edit: just want to add that most gear dyes horribly no matter the job.
