It's more down to personal choice. We had many people complaining that there was no armor glamors for mages. Now we have people are complaning that the new gear looks like armor XD.

This is a weekly conversation, at least.
And the short answer to "why so many robes" is because that's what traditionally identifies your character as a mage - so it's a bit like asking why tanks get so much heavy armour.
It also feels like people in these discussions overlook that others might actually want to follow those traditional archetypes - this certainly seems to be the designers' intent, and why so much is based along those themes.
This claim gets thrown a lot too, but it's not accurate. The overall design is "a robe" but the details and exact shape are always different - sleeve shapes, hems, openings, necklines and decorations vary from one to the next. Each one would be designed and made individually.
Lots of sets have actual pants. Not the relic gear, but look through the market board for healer gear and you'll see that the majority of leg wear is pants - and a number of them actually turn into shorts on a female character (eg. Astral Silk and Arachne/Pagos).
I don't see anything wrong with wearing old gear either - that's the whole point of the glamour system. Find what you like, and stick with it.
(I update my mage gear a lot, but I'm still wearing Lv50 gear on half my melee classes. Some of it just works and looks good, and I keep coming back to it.)
Not a robe fan, but that's my personal style and aesthetic. I've glammed over everythin since the glam plates came out. You'll typically see me as Velma on Zalera, or in my Makai set with Thavnairian tights (Warrior caster princess vibe). On silly nights it might be a Summer Halter set (One FC mate makes the catgirl jokes, I must posterchild the meme). I main SCH and have done so since 2.1, I REALLY would love something other than the job gear that evokes "Nymian Marine", mebbe some uniform style tops (unisex) and light armour? All this level one glimglam type things ofc
Don't touch me there
healer, not in a robe, using current gear.

Robes are usually chest pieces...
♥ Baby, tell me, what's your motive? ♥
It's not the robes per se, it's the damn gowns.
Gowns on healers, gowns on DPS, gowns on tanks, gowns on crafters. And if you somehow get pants (and not short shorts-that-are-basically-underwear if you're a girl, good luck with that) BAM! the body is long ass robe that covers everything and you can't have matching sets because you're forced to glamour the few short stuff we have on them.
I'd also like to mention the magical pants that lose details if your shirt is 2 millimeters too long and you're forced to glamour something even shorter to avoid turning nice pants into pajamas.
So you want to talk s*** over giving an opinion but then gave yours? Your ridiculous comment was a strawman argument btw.I think this thread title should be changed to "why all healer armors don't fit the aesthetic i like?"
Could healers do with more variety? yes
Do healers only have robes? no
It is majorly robes? yes but some of them are pretty cool.
you also have a lot of level 1 gear that fits no job aesthetically. you can use that.
My request would be for more variety in the non robey stuff. we have literally 2 sets for military and arguably 2 sets for tribal themes.
I just wish we have more healer/caster chest pieces that stop at the waist without additional cape, side fabric, ornaments, or whatever...
This ^ . A LOT of great looking stuff needs to be made into lvl 1 glams without the belts, sashes, capes, etc. Hell I want to be able to use the Armorsmith's AF gear that is just the short sleeve top without the apron for .. everything!

Sorry, I might have over express myself. Robes, Gown etc. they look very heavy. Currently stuck with this look for the past HW to Storm... I am hoping to find something new but not more gown, robes... lol
