Two names are cumbersome.

I love double names... Of course they're cumbersome when people call themselves ridicolous junk like Absolutelyawesome Dudebroman but plenty of players use perfectly normal names as well.

I also like the idea of some players having the same last name... I just think it's unique.

The two name system is fine. I can guarantee that if they moved to a single name system, or even if they gave us the option, the forums would be flooded with people whining, "I want this name but it's taken so now I have to be xXxXStupidNameHere11242XxXx! Fix it SE!"

I was against the whole first-last name thing at launch; it did seem cumbersome especially if you had to use text commands to invite someone or such and needed the exact spelling for both their names.

Thinking about it now though, I've found very few instances where this is necessary and having last names can be fun!
For example, in my linkshell, their are a few couples that play together (myself included) and their characters share the same last name.

In the 2.0 UI screenshot it looks like everyones last name is abbreviated. Maybe thats the option we are getting.

and with only one name we will have

Without my last name it just wouldn't be me. Dunno how else to put it. The only inconvenience that I encountered in FFXIV, as far as dealing with first and last names is, it's sometimes a hassle to /pcmd add people to party, if their names are long or 'complex' (yeah, even with ctrl+c/v). Though, I blame SE for not giving us links in chat that we can just click and be done with it.

I also like that some family members playing together share the same last name ^^ We've got quite a few families on Palamecia and it's fun having them around

I like the two name system but it might be neat if you could assign nicknames to people. There are at least 2 people in my LS that I have to type their name fast while its still in my chat log lol.
