How do I find out what my stats mean?

Something that's been bugging me and my friend for a while is that when looking at our attributes we can see how much we have of each stat but not what those number means. Like right now on my WHM I have 2499 crit but it doesn't display my crit chance anywhere. Same as I have 2378 determination but we can't find a way of knowing what that means or even if the stats are proportional to each other.

Sure the higher the number the more you have, but when it comes to materia how am I meant to work out what I should be using when I don't know how the increases effect my stats.

Are we missing something or does this game not tell you what your stats amount to?

I don't think the game actually tells us what the stats amount to

The game goes the route of 'giving you higher numbers while obfuscating their worth.' If you want to find out how much of each stat is worth what, you'll need to look into external guides/resources. 'The Balance' discord is one of the leading theorycrafting places for such things and the one I'd recommend to check out if you're interested in what stats are worth.

I would love if we got total numbers ( like now ) and % to represent the efficiency of those numbers. For the actual model the only way to know that is doing math counts based on general performance i think

They like to mollie coddle us. We can't even see how much health a mob has.

It would "warp our fragile little minds", I assume.

One of the important things to learn about stats in this game is that the damage formula involves truncated numbers. As a result of these truncated numbers, it introduces stat tiers before seeing an increase in results. For example a value of 2300 and 2301 may have the same damage value. However if 2301 reaches the next stat tier, you may see a damage increase. The main goal for stat is too efficiently reach as many stat tiers for each stat type (Crit, Det, Direct Hit, Spell Speed, Etc.) for the relevant job. Of course, certain stats may be considered more valuable for different jobs.

Crit increases damage for every 17 points over base value. Direct Hit increases damage for every 6 points. Det increases damage for every 26 points.

If you want to see where the stat intervals are for each stat type, you can check out this website: http://theoryjerks.akhmorning.com/stats/crit/
There are BiS gear lists that the community created if you do not want to think too much about what to meld.

Well, you don't: the game likes to not tell us because...I dunno, I guess they're too afraid we would min-max and find for the better stat, even though we already do that since the game required min-maxing already, or else we would get enrages.

Thankfully people on the internet already tell about how the stats work, which is how most of the playerbase know what to use for their jobs.

If I didn't I would probably have my Warrior stuffed with useless tenacity lol!

Unless you use outside resources like a theory-crafting community, or a parser that straight up tells you your crit %, there is no way to find out that information in game.

I really don't know why they don't tell us, but that's SE for you.
