Current implementation of level 80 job quests

The only reason you do them is for a title and that's it... no new abilities or anything like that, some jobs might not need new abilities and just lore explanations of why some jobs have their new abilities, but some some jobs do need new abilities from a level 80 job quest to feel complete because they lost so much going into Shadowbringers(looking at you Dark Knight)...

Some job quests are simply not worth doing for the title because of how incomplete they are(again, looking at you Dark Knight), some job quests don't even feel like a job quest (looking at you Paladin for being a level 80 Gladiator class quest in disguise) and some job quests feel like there should be more job quests after(Gunbreaker and Dragoon)...

Role quests were fine(except healer because of that "dwarf" which further makes me want to punt all lalafells into non-existence or something similar) but we need something to make up for the fact that we lost a lot of things that made some jobs to be unique in the first place...

Considering that people went into Shinryu without having done their jopbquests (or at least the last one) and were lacking the abilities locked behind that - sometimes crucial ones that would have helped a lot - I'd rather not have abilities tied to jobquests again...

Unfortunately I've still seen players enter dying gasp without their gear even though I dunno how they could miss it

It's not just for a title, it's for story. I've enjoyed the ones I've done so far.

That's fair, but I wish there were more job quests to do from 70-80 on top of role quests.

I havent done any of the Shadowbringers jobquests yet, partially because of the Stormblood ones - let me pick up your own example of the paladin-jobquest: You say that the level 80 was nothing more than a gladiator-quest in disguise. But the same is also true for the 60-70-story in Stormblood. I main a paladin and sadly I have to say this, but... the paladin-jobquest was never really good. ARR was okay, HW makes me rage just thinking about it (nice little lore-drop on job-crystals in the end, but everything, absolutly everything was bad about it. Specially your go-to-NPC and his motivation and story - not to mention that you find bloody pieces of armor and he puts them on straight away... I disgress. Raging. Told you.), SB was basically just picking up the gladiator-quest.

And thats an issue many jobquests have: They're not that great of a story in the end. And they're specially struggling with always calling you back to help those job-NPCs - the ARR ones, when you're learning the ropes are good, because they're actually about a level 30 character just starting their adventure learning new stuff from their masters. But when you're level 80 and have killed dozens of primals...? How much more can a palace guard teach you? The monk one turned this around in SB and made you the teacher, which was a nice trick, but even that only works for so long until you have to wonder if your pupils havent learned enough from you to hold their own.
Stormblood gave me this strong feeling that the job-NPCs and the job-quests had out-lived themselves.
On top of that we usually had 2-3 really good jobquests (DRK usually, WAR probably, I always liked the scholar ones aswell), most were okay-ish and then there were some rather bad and uninteresting ones. Looking at the amount of jobs we have and the amount of quests that would need to be written, I'm glad they went with the role quests to focus on making rather few but more involved and potentially better quests, while also introducing new characters and therefor not having to struggle with coming up with a reason why you're returning to your job (or even guild) master yet again.

I always liked doing jobquests, but I have to admit that I didnt really miss them this time around - to me the jobquests in SB and sometimes even in HW already felt completly disconnected from what my character was actually doing.
Yet another reason I'm glad they didnt lock the gear or level 80 skill behind them: in SB I had to stop the mainstory right before the endgame to go and do my jobquest. As a paladin main that meant... going back to Ul'dah to fight in a tournament aswell as dealing with a jealous Mylla while I was actually about to save the world from a giant dragon. It felt very... out of place.
And granted, ShB makes you do your rolequest to continue the mainstory - but those rolequests are at least all connected to your main goal of saving the world from the sin eaters. It felt a lot less out of place than dealing with a completly different and unrelated issue that your jobquest would present you with...

In response to Vidu; 60-70 Paladin quests was a callback to your roots as a Gladiator, which I actually liked, and I will agree that the 50-60 job quest could have been done, but level 80 quest for Paladin was just very lacking... I didn't do and won't do level 80 Dark Knight quest because of how the devs butchered my former main job and until they actually give Dark Knight an identity within in the role that it's supposed to do that isn't Warrior but with worse skillset, (forgot to mention that in the opening post so I apologize for that and yes I know it's a petty reason to not do something because of something that I don't like). And role quests are a 1 time thing which in terms of leveling means job quests could have served as a decent replacement for the role quest that you already did if leveling multiple jobs in that role.

While the game requires at least one set of level 80 role quests to be done, the NPC mentions only twice during the last level 79 story quest that he has some gear the could help us. After that, the game does not necessarily show them directly that that NPC has the item level 430 AF4 gear (the said NPC is only shown/marked as a vendor on the map). It may be easy for us veterans, but some newer players may overlook it rather easily.

Given the tone of the quests, I am fairly sure they're meant to be a sendoff for those particular stories and casts of characters.

After finishing the Quest, the info that you can get your Level 80 Gear from Grenoldt is right in the chat log. Even those skipping cutscenes and new players can read.

That aside, just as with Shinryu and telling people to do their job quests, people ignore advice. I like to hang out in Amaurot and tend to whisper those doing story about the Gear if I see they don't have it, but they choose to ignore it. Only thing that would help would be a Job Quest (not Role) that's needed to progress MSQ and rewards Gear.

I'm taking Lore way too seriously. And I'm not sorry about that.
