    Do SMN and BRD need 2 DoTs?

    No, not really.

    Both DoTs being the same duration as well as able to be refreshed simultaneously leads to them being acting like a single DoT.
    Would removing Wind Bite and Miasma (and adjusting potencies to make up for the lost dot) actually affect level 80 gameplay at all?
    They could, alternatively, be different durations like Miasma1 and Bio were in Stormblood.

    The bigger question should be why people think it's too much effort to keep up 2 dot's?I mean cmon its not that hard.

    I feel like you’re missing the point. DoTs are basically 1 button already, and just add to button bloat. They should either be made interesting (like the differing duration I have already mentioned) or just go.

    To be fair, this could be said for regular dps moves too. Ruin 2 and Ruin 3 only do flat damage, and they are both on the same timer, do we really need two? I mean can't we just combine them into one?

    DoT jobs are DoT jobs and flat dmg jobs are flat dmg jobs. Just cause we have 2 abilities that do the same thing doesn't mean we should merge them or get rid of one cause reasons.

    Ruin 3 and Ruin 2 do different things though, as one has a cast time and higher damage, the other is instant but allows abilities to be weaved. This is more akin to asking that ruin 2 turn into ruin 4 instead of being separate buttons.

    You've answered your own question here for Summoner. Miasma has a cast time and Bio is instant and I think different potencies (can't check from work).

    Bards rely on DoT ticks critting to proc their songs effects, they arguably care less for the actual damage of the DoT's than for the frequency, so your suggestion would need to come with a damage per half second (for example) counter. They also have a pair of skills that has potency dependent on the number of DoT's are on the enemies so these would need reworking. They've also got almost no skills to play with anymore, I sort of wish they had 3 DoT's personally, such as a fire arrow that does burn damage.

    It's really just there to add a small layer of extra things to do for the jobs, especially in bard and to an extent summoner's case since you can renew the dots when raid buffs are going out for extra dps that really adds up over an 11 or 12 minute fight.

    Personally I don't care for dots and prefer to glance at my job gauge instead of the boss' debuffs, so I prefer classes with easy to maintain dots (Samurai) or classes with no dots (Red mage and machinist)

    That being said, I'd honestly prefer if summoner went back to 3 DOT spells instead of its current 2, and bard is fine as is.

    BRD does not need to be simplified any more than it already has been. It having 2 DoTs is fine. First it was too hard to upkeep a 10% crit buff by pressing a button every 30s. Now it’s too hard to manage 2 DoTs and upkeep/snapshot them with Iron Jaws.

    Hard no to removing anything more from this job.

    As a SCH main who has been reduced to one for, do not take away the second dot from SMN too, or if you do take away the dots from BRD/SMN give them to SCH please, I would love to have more to do again.
