Because Art of War is boring.

Dots allow for healing and that's supposed to be what healers do.
Miasma 2 has sort of evolved over the years from low initial hit/high damage when dots run duration, to medium hit/medium damage duration to high hit no duration. All it's done is increase spammability. Would love to see it back in some capacity, yet I'm not sure a cooldown version is it. Like how I found Shadowflare was in 4.0 a "fire-and-forget" spell along with Excog, Indom, Chain Strat, Fey Blessing and Seraph that's just used when it's off. Rather a suite of reactionary skills only on GCD but with their own caveats, like Miamsa 2 having low initial hit, but it's strength was unlimited targets and 15s duration. Or Shadowflare lasted 30s and had 5% slow, but required 3s cast so I would consider using Swiftcast on it. If we're getting more cooldowns I'd like to be more of ET, DT and Dissipation, some that alters existing skills in dramatic ways.

To take an outside example of how different I found Team Fortress 2 and Overwatch. Both are team-objective based shooters with a large cast of classes or heros with different abilites. But in OW I found myself waiting behind corners or running around for all these skills to go off cooldown before I could engage, in TF2 almost every weapon's, item's or even class' effect is always active so I found it easier to engage any situation and worry more about controling my own health, reloads and map pickups. Compared 3.0 and 5.0, I had all these skills I could use at any time so I had to figure out myself best area and order of application to use what where.

I'm glad you like parts of the job, I could tell campfire stories until the sun comes about what it used to be: When Scholar had multitude of spreadable dots, multipurpose pet-hotbar and could assume a risky stance. When we also could get Aero, Cleric Stance (3.0) and Stoneskin from Conjurer. If you're curious check out what Scholar got from Arcanist two expansions back and the skill level distribution at which you aquired them. https://ffxiv.consolegameswiki.com/m...st&oldid=63328 All that gone in favor of increasing Broil potency by 20 every expansion.
