I've already quit sch. I'd gladly come back to my (former) favorite class if the devs would realize how bad their current vision of the healers actually is.

Give up? You make it sound like the class is broken beyond repair. The scholar was not in some rut. We heal and dps just fine and even got our aetherflow dump back. Is it perfect? No but I am not gonna throw a tantrum like many other people on the forums.
SCH is still my favourite healer of the three (and I feel really bad for WHMs when gutted SCH still feels better than improved WHM), but it feels so much worse than it used to. I'm not going to just lay down and accept changes that make my favourite job feel worse while achieving nothing. As Billythepancake already pointed out, SCHs still dps a lot. It's just boring dps now. We're still meta, and will continue to be so long as we're strong and there are no other healers who can offer comparable mitigation.
It was the same story in stormblood, albeit to a lesser degree. And that's what motivates me the most to advocate for change. Last time I didn't like the changes but I said nothing and this time they're worse. I'm worried that if we don't convince the devs that they're going down the wrong track then next expansion energy drain will be gone again, along with ruin 2, because you really only need a nuke, a DoT, and a aoe, right? We're only healers, right? Heck, we could probably live without the DoT, according to people who don't play healers.
As an addendum: I also think WHM needs work, but I think it's more egregious that they're leaving SCH in this state because they already have animations and whatnot for the moves they took, so it'd be much easier to make SCH better, even if that was just a short term fix while they worked on a bigger, better fix for 6.0.

Having fun with my SCH. No issues. As long as a job does what it's supposed to - in this case, keep my party alive - and it's engaging to play, I won't have issues with it.

What's there to give up? Scholar is fine and certainly better than astrologian which still may as well be a dead job. All scholar needed was energy drain back, now that they have it it's pretty good.
Bane felt nice to use, but optimally it was terrible due to the nerf it received in stormblood and it was a lot more DPS to multi-dot manually. Removing bane simply drives home this point and makes people do their DPS the right way. Only time bane was useful was in those rare cases where there's too many enemies to multi-dot efficiently. The multiple DoTs to chain with the spreading of them took a big part of its cycle if you wanted to use it fully.
In that regard, reducing it to a single DoT wasn't that outlandish a choice imo. The one i think weird though is getting the spread fonctionality out, as it was made to cleverly initiate a fight by putting DoT and then focusing on healing.

they might as well remove the pets and make the scholar do the animation instead, if it has to be on their hotbars to begin with and use a gcd then it might as well be the SCH doing it altogether, what is the point of the pet if the pet doesn't have its own actions on its own hotbar?
No, the class is not broken beyond repair. The class is broken and SE refuses to repair it. Big difference there, buddy.
