Help Getting back into the action!

I stopped playing after 1.19 and now with the introduction of Jobs i wanted to give them game another try. But after logging in a few times, i find it hard to get things going.

All the pple in my Linkshells are pretty much all around 50 for all their classes so im finding it hard to find people for groups. It also seems like the population really dropped since last time i played. I remember seeing shouts all the time in Uldah asking for grp content. But the few times i tried playing since i reactivated my account, all i saw was one shout from a drg looking for a grp....

Can anyone help me? Just want to know what content i can do, grp or solo at around lvl 25-30? Also, regarding the Job quests, can these be done solo? Oh and dont mention the leaves..... i am very tired of those, i feel like i've done the same 4-5 leves hundred and hundred of times, im sick and tired of them....

My last question is about 2.0. I know nobody knows this since we don't have much info on 2.0 but do you guys think it will be the same game as it is now? Meaning, i know the graphic engine will be different, maps redesigned and with a lot more content, but essentially will the game play the same way or will it be different? Whats your opinion?

As to your social apocalypse issue, I'm thinking maybe your server is just in a lull or you were playing during off-peak hours. This problem should be rectified with the upcoming server mergers I think.

As far as doing things for lvl 25-30 ish, well you can't do jobs so I'd either ask one of your LS friends for a PL, use the new party search features to find XP groups, or solo leves (I know you may not like em but they are damn good solo XP) or better yet solo some leves while you seek party. Killing regular monsters a few levels above you solo is decent XP as well but I'd take leves over that tbh.

Job quests consist of some solo and some party play. When you get high enough to do them you will see as you explore the questlines.

As for 2.0 I don't think the game will feel the same as it does now. Similar perhaps, but keep in mind we still have 1.22 and 1.23 before 2.0 hits. With the launch of 2.0, SE surely has something planned as a sort of "1.24" patch to add to the transfer to new 2.0 servers.

    Hope that helps.

Thanks! That actually helps a lot. I had completely forgotten about the party search tool. As for power leveling... i was told by someone in my LS that i wouldn't work until i was 40 cuz all his classes were at 50. Not sure if that's true or not.. anyways.

As for the population being low, i hope that the merger will fix things.

Your friend from the LS was only half right. The type of PL he is thinking of only works if you are 10 lvls max apart, yes. But there are some nice tricks you can use to have a lvl 50 character PL up to a party of 7 other players of ANY lvl.

It might be a little difficult to explain through text alone but I will try...

    - Basically you get 2-8 players. One is lvl 50 and preferably a BLM. The rest are players from lvl 1-40 and all of these players lvls should be within +/-5 of each other for maximum efficiency.
    - Next you must make sure that the BLM lvl 50 player is never the party leader, for reasons that will become apparent once you test this out.
    - Now find yourself a nice camp, have the BLM either hop on Chocobo and aggro up to 8 mob, or run around on foot and quick slap them with his weapon to get their attention.
    - Next he runs back towards the party and uses a skill, can be any skill really, this forces the game to claim all the mobs that were chasing him.
    - Next the party leader ousts the BLM player, and the BLM casts AOE spells until the monsters are dead (usually only 1 spell).
    - The result is that the BLM player gets nothing, but the remaining 7 still in the party get all the XP and loot.
    - Rinse and repeat!

So if i get this right, the lvl 50 pulls mobs back to the camp, the party leader kicks him out and he keeps casting spells while not in the party to kill the monsters that are currently claimed by the party? You say 2-8 players, can it be just me and a lvl 50?

Another thing i seem to have problems with is finding gear. Looking in the markets i can't find anything good... either too high lvl or too low.... or dated equipment. What would you suggest? Make my own gear? I would take up some crafting but i find it is a very boring process but if i got no other choice then i'll do it.

Yep that's the gist of it. I think it will still work with just you, but it's better with more players. A quick use of the search function or shout in town should get you at least one more person.

As for gear... Making your own or buying from wards is ideal, but if that's not really an option, a lot of quests/leves reward lvl-appropriate gear now too. Not to mention that for your lvl range there are several roaming NMs that drop excellent gear both U/U and regular, maybe grab a friend and give those a try?

If you can't find any XP parties at your level, join a Grand Company and try company leves. They're solo only and offer great solo xp. You can also pick them up at the camp where you do them, so no need to return to town.

As for 2.0, the large chunks of the game-play, the battle system in particular, should be the same. They aren't drawing up new ability lists for 2.0, for example. However, there should be new mechanics in crafting and gathering from what I've read. There's a 'Coming in 2.0' thread in General Discussion if you search for it that provides an excellent summary of all the changes.

I play on figaro too. The population seems very high actually

There's not 5 minutes without a shout in Uldah (at prime), especially since the jobs and AF quests were introduced, and I get /tells for pt all the time even tho I'm not seeking (granted, on my 30+ classes), because there are quite a few exp parties going on all the time even at low-mid levels and they can't actually find enough people to take part in.

My advice would be to take at least a class to 35+ as soon as possible so you can take part in more serious content and maybe help lowbies that will in turn help you as they level, and jump on opportunities for your lower levels when they get out. Look for shouts, use the search feature, and don't forget to use the inns for rested exp to get out of your 20s as soon as possible.

Finally, it may be a good idea to find a ls that's less aimed at endgame

GC leves and Regional leves have been improved a TON this latest patch. With food buff, I reliably got between a third to a half of my needed experience for next level per set of 4 leves, from level 10 to level 35ish.

Just set your homepoint to the camp you're exping in, or favorite the camp and set your homepoint in the camp's nation, and you can level at a pretty decent rate.
