Steam Overlay Causes Crashes - Can't play the game and SE doesn't care

Now that I'm required to play the game through the steam launcher, the game crashes for me.
I can't reliably raid or play the game. I contacted SE support, TLR, they didn't care and hung up on me.

SE has known about the overlay crashes for a long time, and have done nothing about it. We've been told not to use overlays, but now are required to use the steam overlay.

WTF SE? I want to play the game but you're making it real hard.

How is this "customer support"?
Are you trying to become like Blizzard?

You can disable the overlay on a per game basis. Its not the same as running steam in the background. And MOST overlays cause issues, not just steam.

Yea, it has problems with discord overlay (per the conversation I posted.

I used to get 25-35 fps w/o steam running.
Now that I need to use steam, I get between 3 to 13 FPS. The game is unplayable on this computer now.

I don't know if the Steam overlay causes issues, because I don't play there. But I've been using Discord for a long time (with FFXIV, obviously) and I've had zero issues. So I guess that the problem is not the game itself but something else causing a conflict.

Never had any problems out of launching ffxiv with steam or the overlay. Why is this becoming a problems for everyone all the sudden?

rclick your steam install and uncheck the overlay
each game can be individually configured like this, or you can do it in your global settings (view>settings>ingame).

Disable the overlay if that does not work use the directx 9 client.

No offense, but if you don't meet the minimum specs for the game thats not SE's fault.

And with those FPS numbers thats likely the reason, especially if steam is dropping you that much.

It's been a problem for a long time, i started experiencing it when i changed to an nvidia card.
Overlays tend to crash directx. I don't have the problem with any other game.

That's rather strange, I've been playing this game through steam for 6 years and never had a single crash that I remember.
