I've seen a few people concerned that they can't log into the game now or that they would need to make another installation taking up valuable hard drive space.
In order to circumvent this you can create a shortcut directly from the ffxiv_dx11.exe boot in your Steam folder.
While your installation destination may be different a typical location is as follows:
You can then create a shortcut from here if you'd like by right-clicking the ffxivboot64 icon and choosing create shortcut.C: > Program Files (x86) > Steam > Steamapps > Common > Final Fantasy XIV Online > boot > ffxivboot64
Unfortunately you will not be able to access your overlay, have your Steam streams show up on the broadcast page, track your time, share it on your Steam profile, and your steam controller will no longer be functional.
If you want some of these Steam functions, you'll have to add ffxiv_dx11.exe as a Non-Steam Game. Even then, your broadcasts won't show up under the XIV community page, you'll have to start your game time tracker over, and many other things.
Bad move SE.
A lot of legitimate purchasers bought the game twice for this specific functionality. Refunds will be expected if this isn't dealt with properly. There are many ways you can do deal with this in an amenable manner.
- Revert functionality so that folks can run the Windows version through Steam. This does not apply to fraudulent accounts running the Steam Version outside of Steam, in fact it's the exact opposite.
- You can add the Steam Platform onto the Mogstation as an actual platform. As it is right now, You can't register both a Windows version and a Steam version. That's ridiculous since you can register a Windows Version and a Mac Version. A Windows Version and a PlayStation 4 Version. A Mac Version and a PlayStation 4 Version. A Steam Version and a Mac Version. A Steam Version and a PlayStation 4 Version. But you can't register a Windows Version and a Steam Version. I've got keys for both, but I can't register my Steam keys because I've already registered the Windows Version. If you're going to lock people out like this, you need to allow us to launch both by registering both on the Mogstation.
- Let folks who have previously registered under their Windows Version re-register under their Steam Version with their Steam keys. Right now I'm locked out of Steam functionality and that's not cool as it's specifically why I purchased the game again on the Steam platform.
As it is, it's unacceptable and I'll expect a refund if it isn't dealt with in one of the above three manners.
