    New Battle Jobs from DoL/DoH?

    A few of us were discussing in IRC today the possibility of new jobs being teed off of DoL/DoH classes. Has this been suggested before? Would certainly get people crafting/gathering. Based on past comments Yoshida probably wouldn't go this route, but still might be a fun way to introduce new jobs and diversify the DoL/DoH ranks out there.

    Some examples:

    Beastmaster = BTN 30 / PGL 15
    Chemist = ALC 30 / THM 15
    Summoner =GSM 30 / CNJ 15

    Any more that people think would work?

    Interesting idea, but being able to level gathering or crafting classes as a battle job would probably be too drastic. Using one of your examples, people would just get GSM to 30, then play as SMN to get GSM50. I'm not sure that would work well, especially since there ought to be such jobs for every DoH and DoL class to prevent making leveling some of these classes so drastically different.

    Again, interesting idea. Lets them add new jobs without adding new classes, likely jobs that wouldn't be 50.

    Fair point. But let's say that happened. Would it be so terrible? The economy needs more high level crafters/gatherers. More capped crafters/gatherers would theoretically mean better supply, competition and prices. Downside would be it allows for a shortcut to cap those skills, but arguably with resting XP and the general lessening of requirements for crafting/gathering it seems like something SE is not overly concerned about if not all out encouraging.

    Also, for what it's worth, you have people doing that with battle classes as well, but that seems less offensive for some reason. But in practice SE has allowed a class to get capped from level without playing it at all - so this is no different.

    I will note that these new jobs would likely need more special abilities, since the actions of the crafting/gathering professions wouldn't translate to their new associated battle jobs.

    As somebody who is not interested in crafting beyond finding somebody to fix my gear, I say hell no. I want to play SMN too.

    I am a solo-BST at heart who doesn't like crafting, but if I could get a craft up to 30 and then have it naturally get to cap while I level BST it wouldn't be too bad I don't think. Actually, if BST could be CUL 30 / PGL 15 (which also makes some sense) I would be pretty happy to become a capped chef at the same time.

    Leveling GSM to 30 and then playing SMN, and ending up with a level 50 GSM? Probably a pretty good deal.

    Actually I offered an idea long time ago, about L/H classes getting their own jobs (only to make the market more diverse each of the classes would have two routes/options and you could only pick one and never obtain the other) I will provide a link in an update (once I find the thread).

    So jobs get like 5 new abilities to stack on top of their class abilities. Somehow I don't see myself using Goldsmith's Manipulation or Hasty Hand on Summoner very much.

    im not one to say no to more stuff but

    would suck to have to have crafters leveled to play a fighting class/job. unless you can XP on them in a party.
