Launching with Steam, Error after hitting "Play" with ffxiv_dx11.exe messages

    Greetings,

Since Square is changing it so Steam account users can -ONLY- launch the game through Steam as of August 29th, I uninstalled the normal launcher and downloaded/installed through Steam. Upon launching with Steam and hitting the green "Play" button, I get this error

(In Japanese: "Final Fantasy XIV - Something about an Error")

I don't even know why it's in Japanese as I'm set to English. I am running on a desktop PC with Windows 7 and a GeForce GTX 1060. I have tried disabling overlay in Steam, I have uninstalled and reinstalled, I even recently reformatted my HDD with a fresh install of Windows 7, updates, Nvidia drivers and still the same issue. I have the most up-to-date Directx from what I can tell too.

Hi, after downloading the recent patch (5.08) I have also been getting this error, it occurs after pressing the green "Play" button.

    It says:

An unexpected error has occurred. Exciting FINAL FANTASY XIV.

I read in other forums that reducing your refresh rate to 90hz or below in the NVIDIA Control Panel can fix it, but i've tried it at 85Hz, 60Hz and 50Hz and no success. I have also tried disabling DX11 on the launcher and it still crashes.

Good morning and thank you for posting in the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.

Zyxith, have any updates or changes coincide with this error message? When the crash happens, are there any other programs being run at the same time as Final Final Fantasy XIV? Could you provide a system report? Simply go to the 'Config' option on the Final Fantasy XIV launcher and to the right of 'System Information' click on 'Display.'

Congur, could you create your own thread with the same information I asked Zyxith?

Thank you for visiting the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.

I got the errors to stop last night... apparently after installing a different MMO, Secret World Legends. When installing, it installed some Directx files. Weirdly, it said they were Directx 9. I already had Directx 11 installed so I'm assuming somehow Secret World Legends installed something I was lacking?

I will never understand the fickleness of computers...
