I use party, alliance, and shout chat all the time and have never been in trouble with GMs, perhaps people consoling about being reported should consider what they are saying or how they are saying it...

What argument? I was offering or suggesting chat channels if you will that are similar to world chat. How in any way was that an argument? The "linkshells" cross server/world exist in WoW a long time before FFXIV.
You need just group your friend (for your friend cross server) and you can play with him, in the same DC. The party leader "teleport" all the party in his server, automatically.
You can build party raid from your friendlist.
As a result, your argument is irrelevant.
I haven't played current wow for around 12 years (stopped playing during burning crusade) but after trying out classic I was surprised how alive a mmo can feel. There is so much talk in world/region chat and in groups. FF XIV' world chat is pretty much dead most of the time and in most dungeons groups you can be lucky if you get a hello back.. People really don't like to talk to strangers in this game. That's why it's difficult to really judge the community and if it's better like many people say.
Not sure what the reason for this is, but my guess would be that ff 14 has a lot of anti-social players. Furthermore this game has a very strict Tos, so people are way quicker to report someone and this leads to many people not talking at all outside of their fc's or linkshells.
The main difference between WoW and FFXIV, at least back in the day, is the community. Far more forgiving in this game. Your point about dying a lot, I feel it is only polite to your group mates to have researched the fight on YouTube before diving in for the first time. I can forgive poor gear, especially on a new player with little money but there is no excuse for not having done your homework.

Has nothing to do with being polite.
Some people go in blind, some people watch one video, other watch for hours before trying, other simply never try.
Everyone plays different and that's that.
You want people to come prepapred? - ----> party finder

Agreed if there is a bonus in duty finder I don’t go in expecting people knowing what they are doing. Running stuff in non savage/ex content no one is expected to look up guides before hand or considered impolite for not doing so.
That’s part of the reason I try to do the new stuff day one, none of these people hassling over watching a guide because they don’t exist yet lolIf people would stopp uploading videos on Youtube, would you stop playing because you would not know how to fight Bosses in dungeons and raids?
Imagine, there was a time when not everyone was uploading Walkthroughs and Guides on Youtube and people were playing games anyway.
It's kind of funny how the WoW devs realized almost everyone looked up how to do boss mechanics beforehand so now they just have an in-game guide that explains them now.
