I wasn't sure if Yoshi-P was joking about liking the theory that the autoturret desired to be better and grew up, but if explained correctly, it makes sense. Soul Crystals have been known to act on their own. Play through the Dark Knight story. It's possible, manufactured or not, that the Soul of the Machinist has begun to mature into a full fledged Soul Crystal and has started to have epiphanies about how to upgrade your tech. Pretty simple theory, but it does the job.

MCH is a new job in the world as evident by the tooltip for the soul crystal. That said, anything you do is aetherically imprinted on the crystal for futurre MCHs to develop. I'm sure the original DRG BLM MNK SAMs etc all developed the techniques we learn at 30,35,40,45,50,60,70, etc. What we learn inbetween those levels are our own skills. 71+ too. So since there's nobody to teach us MCH skills past 30, it's all on us Lore wise. The MCH quest at 80 kinda alludes to this too.

That, too. I was just creating an explanation for Yoshi-P's passing interest in a theory that the autoturret wanted to be better and upgraded itself.

I think this one's on the fans to speculate over for now. Lots of jobs with field-additions got tiered. Bahamut into Phoenix, Eos into Seraph, Rook into Queen. And Yoshida-san has gone on record saying that trying to balance both jobs' lore and game mechanics has been a real struggle so they're afraid to give too much lore to these abilities too soon. We can't know just yet, but someone's going to guess right.

I was very disappointed that it didn't even get a mention in the lv80 MCH quest, even if it was just sitting idly in the back corner of the room in a tube or something.

I hope it at least gets a mention in the Nier raid stuff. That might get people clamoring to be able to skin their Queen as 2B though...

When it comes to SMN's Firebird Trance/Demi-Phoenix, we can at least theorize that we've (unknowingly) quickened two Trances for the prize of one over Carteneau Flats back then.
It's just that we've "awakened" to Phoenix's much later.

As for MCH...well, with all the tools and machinery we've created/used up until now, "upgrading" our Turret into an actual mecha would've been a simple matter (we're that good).

I personally like the idea that it's open to interpretation. I play my character as an engineer, so in her personal story, she has been working on the Queen for a long time, upgrading the tech as she can. Her Anima from the Anima weapon storyline acts as the 'operating system' for it, which is why it appears that she 'talks' to the Queen when she calls it into battle - Sjel is literally directing her Anima to attack. I much prefer being able to write my own storyline with it rather than being handed a robot by Stephanivien and being told "HERE'S YER ROBOT, HAVE FUN!"
