I would really like to be able to see total potential stats that can be melded to a piece of armor without removing any of the materia currently melded to it already.
That is all.

Yeah I've been having that same thought lately. Mostly because I'm trying to help a friend level his crafting and being able to look at meld caps while I have full penta-melds without having to use a third-party website would be nice.
Odd, your suggestion is identical to one that someone else made in the general subforum today. I figured this was by the same person, but it wasn't, so I'll post the same reply I did there...
When dealing with HQ items or non-crafted items (dungeon drops, tome gear, you name it), the higher secondary stat is capped, and that number is the cap for all secondary stats.
Have a piece of equipment with 126 d.hit & 180 det? The cap is 180 for all secondaries.
Have a piece of equipment with 390 d.hit & 273 det? The cap is 390 for all secondaries.
Have a piece of equipment with 180 crit & 126 sk.sp? The cap is 180 for all secondaries.
I'm not saying that your suggestion is a bad one or anything, but this should help you out immediately, rather than waiting for some patch to change something.
Edit: Since this is apparently new information for some people, I will add that this rule only applies to gear at lv70+. Prior to 70, the formula for Determination was slightly different from the other stats, so anything from 1~69 that involves Determination will have slightly different numbers (Determination's cap was lower). However if Determination is not involved, then the rule still applies.
Edit2: It has been pointed out to me that this rule does not apply to DoH/DoL gear. I did know that, but I didn't even think about DoH/DoL when I posted this.

That doesn't help me when the stat in question is determination or CP/GP which have different stat budgets.Odd, your suggestion is identical to one that someone else made in the general subforum today. I figured this was by the same person, but it wasn't, so I'll post the same reply I did there...

That is a fair and excellent point. DoH/DoL completely slipped my mind when I posted that.
Agreed. I've run into the same issue, and wanted to be able to see the stat caps.
