PSA: Be wary of scammers on Twitch!

I was browsing FFXIV on twitch while bored at work and noticed that top most-viewed stream at the time was saying something along the lines of "Leaving Twitch, 1B gil giveaway, read profile for info." The profile gave a link to a fake lodestone login page, claiming that clicking the link will direct you to a post on the official forums where you can enter to win the giveaway.

I didn't enter my password, but I felt a little foolish for taking the bait in the first place; however, there were over 1400 viewing the stream, so I decided to post here and give a gentle reminder about protecting your account. Be safe, friends!

Unfortunately, this has been ongoing issue for months now. Mizzteq suffers from it the most for whatever reason but occasionally you'll see Tate, MrHappy and etc with the same tag. They use twitch bots to trump up viewership counts. I highly recommend you change your password even if you didn't enter it. Better to be safe.

I don't watch twitch, so I don't have to even think about this.

They use twitch bots to trump up viewership counts. I highly recommend you change your password even if you didn't enter it. Better to be safe.

Just the fact that it's flagged as a dangerous website should be enough of an indicator, but they've been getting smarter about making the page look more authentic as this scam has continued to go on.

Unless I'm misunderstanding what's happening, you seem to be getting cause and effect (or something like it) the wrong way around.

This isn't the original person drumming up extra hits. It's a scammer using that person's name (and the fact it will earn their scam lots of hits) without the named person's knowledge.

If they do use bots to boost their viewer count, it's a separate issue.

You are likely misunderstanding what Forte is saying—I’m sure they’re aware that the scammers are NOT the actual streamers that they’re impersonating. The reference to using Twitch bots to up views is likely to just give the scam pages a form of legitimacy (i.e., they like to impersonate well-known FFXIV personalities, so they gotta give some credibility to their fake channels by inflating the views to make it look like the real streamer’s Twitch).

Always remember that if you do fall for this, make sure to immediately log into the real site, change your password and hop on one of your characters to kick them off if they managed to log in. A one time password isn't going to keep you safe in this situation as you gave it to the scammers, not SE. That gives the scammers a small window of time to login with the one time password.
