is it possible to reward player in mmo based on performance? genuine questionSkill yes i agree totally. skill should be rewarded. luck should not be the governing factor.
i've done ifrit with with friends and grabbed any random guy in uldah just to make the 8th. they've never done it before and spent 99% of the fight dead and walked out with a weapon when the other 7 people worked hard got the win and got nothing. there is no skill there...

i like this question.
i'm sure there's a way somewhere that you could measure performance. i personally am not sure on how though. in a discussion about it with friends we once thought that for example you walk into the ifrit fight. you have a 50% chance of a totem.
now as the fight goes on and you deal damage or cure people pop your abilities etc that chance could slowly build up. but if you get caught in eruptions or cracks or die then it goes down. this though would only suceed in a whole lot of crying at all the whms cos i let you die and affected your chances. or something to that effect.
a much simpler solution though which some may gripe at but make stuff much harder and indrease its rewards. i'd quite happily do an ifrit fight thats 50% more difficult if in turn i got 50% more rewards or something to that effect. have maybe a bowl of embers extreme or something.
just a thought. but again i do think that is a great question
