Consistent crashing in cutscenes of 4.1 content and onwards in DX11

I am having an issue where I constantly crash in cutscenes of 4.1 content and at least 4.2 content. I went through all of 2.0-4.0 without a single crash and now most cutscenes have crashes at consistent points. Some cutscenes are also missing audio for a line or two. I have tested across two computers and have the same problem across both of them but I still re-installed FFXIV to make sure it wasn't a file issue. I have also tried reverting to an older version of Windows, reverting to an older GPU Driver, and switching to Direct X9. The issues don't appear in DX9 but since support has been dropped for it, I need a solution to repair the DX11 mode. I have tried deleting the DLL file listed in the event viewer application error report and repairing them through the System File Checker tool in windows but that did not change anything.

Just to make sure this is clear: I have no crashes reviewing old cutscenes or during normal gameplay. I have no crashes in other games or applications. However, >=4.1 cutscenes do not work and sometimes crash during the loading screen which doesn't allow me to skip them to continue the story.

Good afternoon and thank you for posting on the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.

With the Stormblood expansion (4.0), there was an increase to the minimum requirements of the game. It looks like the graphics cards in both PCs don't quite meet the minimum requirements for that expansion, even if it met the requirements for the base game.

Unfortunately, this can make troubleshooting a bit more difficult. The solution may end up being to upgrade your hardware. However, you may want to try some of the following to see if it will alleviate the issue:

1) For your second PC, the graphics drivers look a bit out of date. Try installing the most up-to-date versions. You may want to try reinstalling the drivers on your first PC as well.

2) Set compatibility mode to Windows 7. Right-click on the ffxivboot.exe file and select ‘Properties.’ Then select the ‘Compatibility’ tab and choose Windows 7.

3) You can also try a clean boot. Simply open the task manager and select the 'Start up' tab. Disable everything here and restart the PC. This will make sure that no background processes are interfering with the game.

Youre Version of Windows 10 is really old on both PCs (17134 = April 2018, 1803) please consider updating to 1903 (May 2019)

I did and it still gives the same error. I don't see how I have lower system requirements on either PC based on the official system requirements listed here. Even if I did, it wouldn't explain why cutscenes with crashes have audio clips that won't play. That are the same audio clips as well.

I have no overlays I can think of and I have tried disabling all on-essential processes while running FFXIV. I will try to boot into safe mode tomorrow since I have not tried that but I am not sure if the game will even run. Even then, I don't understand why certain audio clips would not play in cutscenes that have crash points. The cutscene I am stuck at now crashes in both DX9 and DX11.

I was also able to complete the Shadowbringers benchmark without crashing and can still play Stormblood 4.0 cutscenes.

Edit: I booted into safe mode with networking and launched with the lowest settings with the basic Microsoft display driver and still crashed at the cutscene.

Is anything over heating when the game is being run? Do you have a way of monitoring those temperatures? Going back to what Einmimiria mentioned, it does look like your graphics card is out of date on both computers. Please check the system requirements for Shadowbringers with the following link:

temperatures seem fine. I use Speedfan and I notice no irregular temperatures. Even then, it wouldn't explain why I am crashing at the same place in the same cutscenes on two different systems while also having audio lines not play consistently as if they are missing. I have done a full reinstall on both systems and both of these issues persist. Is your only conclusion that neither computer can play cutscenes of 4.X cutscenes to completion despite no issues in 4.0 nor any issues within the Shadowbringers Benchmarking tool due to lacking minimum system requirements? Both GPUs are DX11 compatible.
