It just irks me why a healer would have a higher potency magic spell than a black mage. Afflatus Misery should be changed to 1 blood lily petal to cast but potency should be like 350. Xenoglossy should be atleast 800. I play both but it's just i don't understand why a healer has a higher spell potency than a DPS.

Because Astral Fire increases the potency of Fire spells for BLM. And Xenoglossy is instacast and can be stacked twice

I'm talking raw potency, Astral fire has nothing to do with this as well. Afflatus Misery is insta as well. But the point i'm trying to make is why a healer has a higher magic potency spell than an actual DPS caster. I'm not counting buffs, etc. Base raw potency.

Keep in mind that Affatus Misery requires 4 GCDs (3 of which do no damage) to setup and use. That's an average of 225 potency per GCD, which is weaker than WHM's baseline nuke of 300 potency per GCD - making Afflatus Misery a DPS loss in non-AOE situations. Even in AOE situations, 225 potency with falloff is only a little better than 140 potency without falloff.

    So, chill out?

Looking at just raw potency is misguided. BLM has deceptively low potencies across the board, because damage boosts are baked into its rotation.

This kind of stuff is what Yoshi-P warned us about in terms of looking at Raw Potency alone.

As others have mentioned, it's what goes into the offensive weaponskill, spell, and ability as well.

Who gives a damn about raw potency?!
I need to use 4 GCDs for that thing, so the actual potency is around 900/4 = 225 which is LOWER than my standard glare cast.
If I don't need the healing from the blue lilies (dungeons, cough) it can actually be a DPS _LOSS_ to use them on single targets.
Add the 90s cooldown to that and you get one mother of underwhelming spell.
