Can USB Gamepads Crash your game?

I have tried a few controllers and currently use the new logitech F310 or the old cordless rumblepad 2. I do use the Logitech driver w/o freezes (I think you can get away with not using the logitech software if you don't want the rumble or the new feature that switches the back triggers to Digital buttons via a switch on the controller, but be aware if you play XI also then you need these digital buttons or the rear triggers can not be used in game.)

On a side note stay away from...
1) Snakebyte FFXIV Controller
THIS WILL BLUESCREEN a 64bit rig if you use there official driver, but will work just fine if you just plug it in and just let windows install the driver it finds. These controllers don't last long before the D-pad starts to stick.

2) Logitech F710
Cuts out wireless sooooooo much. I got one because I loved the Rumblepad2 so much (it never cut out on me in over 6 years). Ended up using it to take the little pad that is under the buttons out to replace the one in my discontinued Rumblepad 2 giving it new life again.

3)Razer Onza
Stick starts drifting after a few weeks of play.

Just to add to this thread, I've been having the occasional - well regular - blue screens of death, usually while playing FFXIV. Last crash, I loaded a Windows programs called WhoCrashed, and it pointed me at this:

On Sun 7/29/2012 1:26:21 AM GMT your computer crashed

This was probably caused by the following module: cm2793.sys (CM2793+0x783)
Bugcheck code: 0x1E (0x0, 0x0, 0x0, 0x0)
Error: KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
Bug check description: This indicates that a kernel-mode program generated an exception which the error handler did not catch.
This appears to be a typical software driver bug and is not likely to be caused by a hardware problem.
A third party driver was identified as the probable root cause of this system error. It is suggested you look for an update for the following driver: cm2793.sys .
Google query: cm2793.sys KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED

If you google search cm2793.sys, that is the Snakebyte driver for the FFXIV Controller.

So - my current test is to uninstall the Snakebyte driver and use the default Microsoft drivers. I think this removes the Function button feature and the pad rumble - but if it doesn't crash, that's good for now.
