I was in Praetorium the other day as one of four black mages, along with two gunbreakers and two scholars. I really don't know what you're talking about.

That is a very rare fluke. Most of the time it tries to get 2 melee and 2 range classes and also tries not to double up on classes. This isn't needed for the MSQ roulette.

It's also possible the 4 red mages were all in a party.
