Do it! Rip that bandage off! Time to move into the modern MMO! For real, limiting your playerbase pool to pull from for content (DF / PF / etc) is silly.

My concern would be major issues with people being able to login into their home servers if people decide to hop onto different ones. I mean I am not saying it isn't without merit, it would expand the player base and there wouldn't be dead time during certain times of the day.
Maybe with the JP from their DC or some of the French, but generally everyone on the EU DC speaks English. If this makes it so we can have PF and DF pull from outside the datacenter, yes!
I am not for cross region though. I feel that might lag too much if I am paired with people from EU or now run into more language barriers.
Also, I want to see a neutral AH that is all of the worlds on a datacenter so that I dont have to jump between worlds to find a good deal.
Oh my Goooood I'd love this. I'd be able to play with my Aether friends again. I hope this will actually be a thing. I don't mind not being able to visit them on their worlds but to at least run instanced content together would be a dream!
I think the hunt system would need to be revised or potentially become worse in community problems, but in general I like the idea. Just for my sanity at the market board maybe limit how many times you can adjust the price of something per time interval lol. The amount of potential price competitions go up but worse these competitions are sometimes waged by bots who never sleep.. which gets a bit tiring(demand will go up too, so not on all products would this even be possible/true).
I wonder with the megalith servers spreading out and the gil from the big servers going to the newer servers if the housing issue would be made worse or better. Since you'd have more gil for those who couldn't afford it before, and more people that could/haven't had the opportunity to have a house before now have one. I /still/ want personalized zone housing even if the neighborhood system finally becomes big enough to handle all the players. The limitations on neighborhood just don't do it for me, "I want this zone, with this plot, with this location" is still a massive issue even if the neighborhood system SE uses gets enough houses. Like everyone can recall when a new zone is added, A LOT of people wanted it, few people were able to actually have that content. Basically even when it does work unless some core part of it is changed it will always have huge creative limitations, and while an instanced zone might take away some of the neighborhood feeling you can still invite people and unless you're tight with your neighbors it's a ghost town in the current system anyways. A leaderboard / search system could allow all those restaurants, bath houses, and such to function just as they do now (but with more creative control and easier search ability), meaning many of the community aspects of housing do not die at instanced creations (Wild Star is an example of one where the community was pretty good, and it was personalized instances). So like 90% of people don't take advantage of the environment anyways- the single specialty of the system is rarely harnessed in the first place (so great creative control, imo, becomes way more beneficial than 10% of your player base gets to wave from their porch, not that I want to destroy their house- I want them to be able to keep that system for them as a legacy item). And yes 90% made up lol, but I feel "likely" stat, at least from hanging out in the district for about 30 minutes to an hour everyday and reading forum/people's posts in game. Still I'll give them props for attempting to fix their housing system if this is the end goal, clearly a lot of work to get that fixed (doesn't change my desire but I'll still give a clap for the effort put in). Also I appreciate the work done to reduce server stress and allow people to play cross full servers, I'm glad they didn't abandon their huge servers and started free transfers and everything else they've done to help.
Anyway, my bad habit tangent aside lol, I think this is pretty cool news. I'm sure it'll be a while longer till implementation but I like that they're working on taking down the barriers.
I bet a lot of intensive work has gone into this task so good job SE.

Wouldn't really mind if the barrier between DC was removed even if it was just for PF.
If nothing happens after all, i just hope that they at least reconsinder and the EU DC and put Ragna/Cerbe/Odin/Phoenix in the same one.
I for one, welcome our new Bulmung overlords.
This is the sort of measure usually done when a game is shrinking.

FFXIV is instead growing, so I wonder what the motives would be.

If I recall aren't all the NA servers at the same location? Possibly even on the same server rack? If so I can see this being possible with enough work. Uniting between regions however is going to be a hassle. I doubt we'll see EU/NA/Oceania co-play for a long while.
