that would be pretty sweet
Botanist knocking trees down to block his path... hahaha.... awesome....
Reading this thread made me realize how stale FFXIV fights are. Pretty much every move boils down to AOE or enfeebling.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...EGoM #t=01m54s this is what a boss fight should be like.
why would a giant wolf need a sword in its mouth to kill me?
As i appreciate everyone posts and responses let try to focus more on creating new NM's with actions that you would like to see instead of using other references to games that would never be ffxiv. We had some great contributions in the post so far i would love to see some more. I love the creativity so let gets back on OP. On the same note While the game that your are showing from you tube.com Majidah looks very interesting i don't think final fantasy will be a game like that where you roll and dodge from monsters. I don't mind you posting this if you want the NM's to be like. Lets just not make this about to two games and which one is better and instead focus more on what you would like to see or just something creative you came up with.
Demon Wall
Fight occurs on sealed bridge or inside closed-off tunnel. The Demon Wall blocks the player's progression and moves forward slowly, attacking those in base to base with it. There is no escape until either the Demon Wall or the party dies.
- Dust Off -AOE effect that causes short knockback and countdown to Petrify 120sec *uses regularly*
- Doom - Countdown to death 60sec *uses infrequently, and only when it's HP is below 15%*
- Blindga
- Slowga
- Sleep - *will sometimes cast in response to being damage by a spell or ranged attack*
- Gravity
- Grinder - 999 damage (3x damage if target is affected by petrify) *Its main attack*
- Crush - 99,999 damage *switches to this attack exclusively when it reaches the end of the hall/bridge*

Once they fix the server and give us some spells we can cast while moving... I'd like to see more mobile battles....
thats something FF has always managed to do well....
A battle on a boat/airship/raft/train
In another thread I talked about a battle where some NM was barreling towards a town... and when it got there it would destroy the town.....
You'd have to fight it while it was running. It would run just slightly slower than our characters and slow down when it wanted to cast something on your party
Maybe a battle on a Big Bridge in Coerthas against Ishguardian Knights followed by Gilgamesh ;p
What makes NM fights more epic is the location/aesthetics.

You are so right. Ambience, setting... even music all make a battle unforgettable
That make me remember the boss in FFXII when we were getting the first esper. We had a boss and a wall going to us and behind a spiked wall to crush us- We had to be fast or was game over.Demon Wall

I am not seeing that as a NM but maybe part of a dungeon or other quest to get something of real importance (like an AF weapon or a summon or other cool thing).
Yeah, its really more of a quest boss rather than a NM -- and you are correct on the FFXII reference. It actually originated in FFIV, showed up again in FFVII and then FFXII as well as the FFT, FF:CC and FF Dissidia series (more info HERE). Traditionally, fighting the Demon Wall is a very stressful battle. That make me remember the boss in FFXII when we were getting the first esper. We had a boss and a wall going to us and behind a spiked wall to crush us- We had to be fast or was game over.

Since it has already appeared in many FF games, the demon wall has become iconic. It would be nice to have it make an appearance in FFXIV.
BTW, For those who played FFXI:CoP (mission 8-3), there was a battle in the Garden of Ru'Hmet which was thematically similar to the Demon Wall, but it involved 4 Ix'zdei pots rather than a single wall.

I definitely agree with one thing... any sort-of Dragon NM should be a really random spawn that can swoop down on any innocent adventurer... rather than being camp-able.
