Dying a whole lot as a Dancer

Much much more than I did with my Red Mage. Sometimes even 1 mob is able to kill me. Are they supposed to be this squishy. I have level 255 gear. Level 61. Doing Stormblood. What am I doing wrong. I am trying to get to the Shadowbringers content. I am about 25 quests into Stormblood.

Use your 2 heals and your shield. Maybe get better gear if you really have problems.
For open world, use your chocobo.

Yeah, I have noticed they seem unusually squishy, bard, SCH, and RDM (and probably others) don't seem nearly as squishy

I was dying a TON. Took about ten tries to do the Qiqirn quest. Only beat it with my healing chocobo out. I did do some roulettes after that to get a better sense of how to play, which helped my confidence since I could focus on rotations while the tank took hits.

Was a Black Mage before and I don't remember having anywhere near as much trouble. This Bard also has zero issues in open world.

And I hate to start using my Red Mage again as I am trying to get through the content and stay at a proper level for the content. Those are my only 2 60+ level jobs. My Scholar, and Summoner are mid 50s level.

What is killing you? The Stormblood MSQ, open world stuff, FATEs?

You could compare any DPS to RDM and RDM would always last the longest when it comes to pure survivability, but if you need to heal yourself that frequently, there's probably something else going wrong.

Just regular mobs sometimes but usually only if there are 2 mobs involved. Just did the quest to kill a Marlboro. Killed me fairly quickly. Problem is many of the dancers skills hit all enemies in range so sometime it aggros other mobs.

Oh, right DNC does have a rather large AOE (15y) that gets used quite frequently... I could see how that would pose a bit of a problem. I'm not sure what to tell you other than to try to be careful. That size AOE would certainly make doing FATEs difficult, since you need to stay within the confines of the FATE circle.

You could probably get away with not using Standard Step, but that also kind-of sucks as a solution.

With that said, I don't think DNC itself is any squishier than any other ranged DPS (one could even argue it's LESS squishy, thanks to Curing Waltz). Don't forget that as a ranged DPS, you can kite stuff. That can certainly reduce the amount of damage you take.

Yeah, I've noticed my dancer is particularly squishy, definitely need my chocobo with me out in the field at all times. The accidental aggro from step doesn't help me much either

Nope completed both extremes dozens of times, done all the story, do FATEs and it's fine. I have saved my own party rather than me dying because of my shield and heals. Also use your role heal if you need to. I see no problem with dancer (survivability) once you get used to the gigantic finisher aoe size.
