Anyone know what gear setup is best to help NIN?

A friend and myself are NIN main, we love playing NIN, despite how wrecked they are when 5.0 dropped so we're looking for ways to help NIN get better DPS in its current state (5.05) and my friend managed to to use a site to help put together a gear set to boost NIN's DPS a bit.

I am not sure if we're allowed to post links to other website as I'm aware that parses are banned here. Though it's not one I'm just not sure.

That said gear my friend picked out and calculated to see what would help.

My friend mentioned getting close to 15k DPS, but I don't crunch numbers and I haven't gotten all of the parts yet so I'm not entirely sure. Considering that the main stats are the most important before the substats I'm asking around.

We plan on Penta melding the crafted gear, but we're wondering if they're better gear and materia setups that's superior than this.

Does anyone know and can tell us? Anything to help push NIN in a better spot.

Not sure you can do much else if you're using BIS for your current ilvl, play optimal and using good pots and food. Good thing is they said short term potency buffs are coming and a rework in 5.1. Just sucks getting used to a rotation only to potentially have ten chi jin inputs on GCD and shadowfang no longer a 2 part combo.

It's hard to answer your inquiry without knowing what limitations you're putting on yourself. Obviously the best set would primarily the highest iLevel gear (savage, or even stuff bought with Phantasmagoria), but your example set seems to be limited to i450. We're on week four (I think) of Phantasmagoria, so I'd expect at least one piece of that in there, even if you're saving 1000 for a weapon.

Then there's the gear listed. It looks like you're prioritizing crit > d.hit > det which is fine, but then I look at the hat. The hat could easily hold a full set of d.hit, and yet you've chosen 2x det? Odd. Then I wondered why you chose the Eden pants (Det/D.hit) over the Facet pants (Crit/Det + overmeld option). Additionally, a fully overmelded Facet Ring (140Crit/130D.hit/186Det) seems better than an Immaculate Ring (186Crit/186Det).

Then I wondered how you came up with your set at all and stopped looking.

My friend was the one who set up the materia and showed me the data on the gear set for NIN. My friend mentioned the gear set is for i450 - 470. I wasn't the one who made the spreadsheet.

My friend and myself are asking if there's a better alternate to this to improve NIN better as we don't know enough to make NIN slightly better than where it is now. Honestly I HATE some of the substats on the gear my friend listed, I just feel like it might not be that good even with overmelding Materia on the gear.

I'm more or less a casual player so I just put on the highest level gear and Materia on my NIN.

Disclaimer 1: I am not a NIN main, and as such, I don't know exactly what stat weights should be prioritized. Based on your friend's set, it looks like they're shooting for crit > d.hit > det (which seems to be common across a lot of jobs so that's what I'd expect), but on some of the pieces it looks like they're prioritizing det? I don't know what they were smoking when they made that set for you.

Disclaimer 2: I generally advise self-styled "casual players" (myself included) to not waste time on overmelding since you're just going to replace that stuff with weekly tome gear in a few couple weeks, but you do you. The difference between "the worst i450 gear" and "the best i450 gear" is not big enough to notice unless you're parsing. I just roll around with Eden/Tome/ExPrimal stuff in all slots because I'm too lazy/cheap to bother with crafted junk that will get replaced in short order, and I'm not doing anything hard enough to warrant the best-of-the-best.

Disclaimer 3: The following is not "the best" gear (that would be a mix of Eden Savage and upgraded Phantasm tome gear), it's limited to i450 stuff (with a couple of mentions to Phantasm tome gear).


Assuming crit > d.hit > det (if that's incorrect, you can throw most of this out the window)...

Weapon: Silktones (434 crit / 424 d.hit / 60 det) is obviously better than King's (424 crit / 434 det), but if you've been capping your weekly stuff, I think we hit 7 weapon tokens next week, so I wouldn't worry too much about optimizing. Just buy the Deepshadow Daggers next week (7 Eden tokens and 1000 Phantasm tomes). Meld with 2 crit.
Head: Your picture shows that you already own the Phantasmagoria tome head! Did your friend not know you had that? Use that! That's better than any i450 option! Meld with 1 crit, 1 det.
Body: Facet body beats Eden (same crit, so it's Facet's 403 d.hit / 60 det vs Eden's 403 det)
Hands: Eden seems better (Eden is 234 crit / 248 d.hit / 60 det vs Facet's 180 crit / 248 det / 174 ss)
Wasit: Finally, a slot I agree with your friend on. Facet belt is good.
Legs: Facet beats Eden (why did your friend advise melding d.hit here? I thought crit was king, and Eden legs have no crit)
Feet: Another agreement. Eden feet are good.
Ears: Eden seems better (Eden 186 crit / 186 d.hit vs ... once again your friend isn't melding crit? I don't understand what stat they like best.)
Neck: Facet could probably beat Immaculate when fully overmelded, but the difference is minimal.
Wrist: Another agreement. Facet is good.
Ring1: Another agreement. Eden is good.
Ring2: You already own the Phantasmagoria ring! Did your friend not know you had that? Use that! Meld with 2 crit.

Further upgrades: Various Phantasmagoria tome pieces (maybe all of them? idk) will usurp your i450 pieces simply due to the DEX upgrade (and DMG, in the case of the weapon) once you have enough tomes to buy them. Even more so once they can be upgraded to i470.

I see. That's why I asked. My friend wasn't so sure themselves and wanted another opinion on the matter.

I do have some of those items already and I'm close to getting the weapon with the tomes. Just need to clear E4 two more times.
